James Medwid

Passed on December 8, 2018

Peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018 our dear husband and father, passed away with his family at his side. Jim was born October 17, 1945 at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital in Stonewall, Manitoba. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Margaret of 51 years, his daughter Karmelle and his son Kristopher (Kelly). He was predeceased by his mother Helen, his father John, brothers Willie and Peter, sisters Marion, Lucie, Jennie and his nephew Tyler. Jim was the youngest of 8 children. He is survived by his brother Steve, the oldest and his sister Margaret. Jim attended school in Balmoral graduating from Stonewall Collegiate. He married Margaret Packer in June of 1967. He was blessed with two children, his daughter Karmelle in 1972 and his son Kristopher in 1976. He took over the family farm in 1967. He obtained his Class 1 license and spent many winters long distance trucking. He also worked at Teulon Hospital for 9 years all the while maintaining the family farm until his admission to Rosewood Lodge on July 12, 2015 due to frontal lobe dementia. Jim loved the farm, the outdoors, his garden and hunting. He spent many years coaching baseball in Balmoral, many years winning the Highway 6 & 7 league. He took his team to the Manitoba Summer Games in 1988. Jim loved music and dancing. Every Saturday night he would have the Saturday night polka party playing at full blast while still watching Hockey Night in Canada. Whether he was cultivating the field or cutting grass he always was listening to CFRY 920 on your dial! We would like to thank Dr. Loudon, Michelle Loehmer, home care workers Matthew Campbell and Sean Amy for their care prior to Jim’s admission to Rosewood Lodge. Special thanks to Dr. Graham, the nursing staff and staff from all departments for their support and care. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the Church of the Ascension, Stonewall (corner of 1st Ave. N and 2nd Street W.) on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, 10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2.
