Barry Leo Jeske

Barry Leo Jeske

Passed on

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Barry Leo in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 8, 2026 at the Teulon Hospital Transitional Care Unit.  Barry was predeceased by his wife Shirley; his sister, Constance Drebit and brother-in-law Steve Drebit. Left to cherish his memory and love, daughter June (Perry) McMahon, sons B Dean Jeske and Perry Jeske, granddaughter Dr. Kristin (husband Vincent) McMahon, Andrew (friend Marissa) McMahon, great granddaughter Liv and brother-in-law Raymond (Monique) Mayner, many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews as well our extended family of Joan Trombo’s.

Barry was born in Teulon, Manitoba on February 26, 1944 and grew up within Teulon.  Ever the athlete, Barry played a number of sports such as footfall, baseball, hockey during his high school years and then an avid curler and golfer in adulthood. Barry would later coach June and the Northern Goose Girls Fastball team for many years, winning many Provincial Championship titles and playing in the Western Canadians and Canadian National championships.  Dad’s work career started in his teenage years when he worked in the Meat Locker with his Dad, Leo. He graduated from Red River College as an Accountant and worked at number of different places such as the TD Bank, Health Science Centre, South Interlake Credit Union, Northern Goose Processing Ltd and eventually, Interlake Electric Ltd.  He enjoyed working at Interlake Electric so much he did not retire until September of 2025 (after 27 years of service) at the age of 81. Barry also enjoyed volunteering within the Community:  a Fireman with the Teulon Fire Department, member of the Teulon HealthCare Foundation, Chairman of the Board for Gateway Manor, member of Teulon Golf and Country Club and member of St Peter Lutheran Church.  He conducted the financial audits for quite a number of organizations in Teulon for 35+ years.

One of Barry’s favourite pastimes was fishing.  He really enjoyed fishing with his family and friends, especially on the Red River where he usually managed to catch Master Angler catfish on more than one occasion (kept a book with all his certificates).  Barry also enjoyed traveling/visiting many countries and going on many cruises with Shirley.  Highlight of their travels was visiting son Perry in Miami, FL every winter.  Barry really loved to go camping with family and friends, especially his camping trips with the cousins and camping with June, Perry, Kristin and Andrew.  Barry’s first love:  His Family. Barry always made time to attend his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild’s events whether it be sports (many many sports), music, arts, dance recitals or birthday parties.  Barry also enjoyed playing cards into the wee hours of the night with friends, sitting around having coffee, chatting up with family and friends.  Father’s Day was always special to Barry as it meant it was a wiener roast with family. He loved roasting wieners on an open fire and eating those hot dogs.

The family would like to thank the medical staff, nurses, therapists and health care aides of the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, the Selkirk Transitional Care Unit and the Teulon Hospital Transitional Care Unit for all their care for Barry.  Special thanks to all family and friends that came to visit Barry in the hospital and TCUs.  The staff were always amazed of how many visitors he had; he was loved by so many.

The family welcomes you to join them for the funeral service for Barry on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 10:30am at the Windsor Cemetery, Teulon MB, followed by lunch at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre, Teulon MB, from 11:30am – 2:00pm.
