October 31, 1946 – January 26, 2023     It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wiegand “Karl” Schweitzer. Karl passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023 with his partner and family by his side. He was a beloved partner, father, Opa, brother, uncle and friend.

Karl was born on October 31, 1946 in Germany. He was the second youngest amidst four sisters. Karl is survived by his partner, Rose; his children: Carla (Rob), Erica (Wes), and Adam; his grandchildren: Myles, Claire and Della; his sisters: Marie-Louise, Sieglind (Rudi) and Christine (George); his nieces, nephews and other close friends who were like family.

He was predeceased by his mother, his sister Margarete and her husband Eberhard.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their exceptional care and support.

The funeral service and luncheon will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hwy 7 Teulon, MB. Interment to follow service at Windsor Cemetery.

Peacefully on January 24th, 2023 with family by his side, Jack Moore passed away in St Boniface Hospital at the age of 73.

Jack was predeceased by his mother Doris, father Ken and stepfather Ewart. Jack is survived by his wife Lorna, two sons Dustin (Teryl) and Dana, his sisters Ivy (Rich), Joy (Ron) and his brother Brian (Dolores). Jack had many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family that he absolutely adored. He will forever be missed by his grandchildren, Reese and Carter who he loved more than anything. He was their number one fan.

Jack was born on Oct 22, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to the farm at Grosse Isle in 1951. Jack attended Grassmere school, then Grosse Isle before graduating from Warren Collegiate in 1967. That fall, Jack attended the University of Manitoba majoring in Mathematics. Following his father’s passing, Jack moved back home to help on the family farm while continuing his university education. He graduated in the spring of 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and started his career as a computer programmer with the Manitoba Hospital Association. From there he worked with Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Data Systems, and eventually IBM where he worked his way up to supervisor.

While he was working in the city, he would spend his off time in Grosse Isle working on the farm which he purchased in 1974 and then expanded in 1982 when his Uncle Les decided to retire. Dad farmed until 1994 when he retired and sold the land to neighboring farmers. Jack retired as a computer programmer in 1998 and immediately started helping friends doing renovations and carpentry work. Jack could always figure out how to do any project. In 2003 Jack and his son Dustin started a renovation company where he still continued to work.

While at Manitoba Hydro, Jack started curling with a coworker Bob Hudson and his wife Laurie. They introduced Jack to Laurie’s sister Lorna McKenzie and the two were married in March of 1979.

Jack & Lorna built a house in Grosse Isle in 1983 where they raised their family and eventually bought a cabin at Falcon Lake in 1994. Jack enjoyed spending his free time at Falcon Lake and met countless friends who he absolutely cherished. Material objects never meant much to Jack, but family and the friends he made over the years meant everything to him. Jack felt fortunate that he had such a close relationship with his sons, getting to work every day with Dustin and spending his weekends at the lake with Dana.

You would never find Jack sitting still, he was always up to something. If any friends or family had a project going on you would find Jack there ready and willing to help in any way he could. Jack loved to snowmobile, play cards & games with friends and watch his grandchildren play sports. Jack had a very clever, yet distinct sense of humour – in fact there are a number of punchlines still floating around waiting to land in the years to come.

The family would like to thank Ian & Neil Speirs, the Falcon Lake EMS, and the wonderful and caring staff at St Boniface Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at the Grosse Isle Hall on Thursday, February 9th at 11:00 am.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Smyth on January 24th, 2023, at the age of 75. Dennis leaves behind his wife Maureen. He also leaves behind daughter Darcy (Greg) and son Dennis; grandchildren Kelsey (Ryan), Taylor (Chrisie), Sam, Ashley, and great grandson Theo. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Mike, sister Nancy, brother-in-law Lenny, nephews; Mike and Scott (Lisa), nieces; Reagan (Craig), Thaila (Scott), Jenny (Mark), Holly (Chris), and their children. Dennis also had so many close friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his mother Patricia, sister Sheila, brother Bruce and daughter Karen.

Dennis was born on February 21st, 1947, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. While working a lengthy career with the Winnipeg Post Office, Dennis fulfilled a lifelong dream of starting his own business, when he opened the very popular “Pizza Den”, in Stonewall Manitoba. In growing his business, Dennis formed countless relationships with employees and customers, that carried on long after his retirement. Dennis had trained many family members to work at The Den over the years, earning him the name Chef Dennie! He built his dream home in Inwood, Manitoba, in 1983, where he loved to host endless gatherings with family and friends. In his retirement, Dennis and Maureen loved to spend their time in Mesa, Arizona, where he was able to relax and focus on his biggest passions, golf, and being the life of the party.

All of those who were blessed to know Dennis, saw what a generous, kindhearted, man he was. Gifting 16 extra years of life to his loving sister by donating his kidney and caring for his ailing wife Maureen for many years, these are just a couple examples of his selfless spirit. Dennis had a deep faith and love for the lord, his community, and the Catholic Church. He could brighten up any room with his smile and laughter, and he will be greatly missed.

We invite you to join our family in honoring Dennis on Saturday, February 4th at 1:00pm, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Stonewall Manitoba. There will be a celebration of life to follow at the Stonewall Legion.

Martha Martens peacefully passed on January 23, 2023 at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, MB, with family at her side.

Martha is survived by daughter Brenda (Terry) & family; sons Marvin (Tammy) & family, Kevin (Renee) & family, Martha had 16 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren.

Martha was predeceased by her parents Isacc and Margaret Fehr and son-in-law Nico Janssen.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

February 19, 1924 – January 21, 2023      It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, auntie and friend to many. Mom passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Selkirk Hospital on January 21, 2023.

Left to mourn her passing are her children Leonie (John +), Ron (Midge), Gerald (Diane +), Lynne (Ken), Mark + (Murielle), Laurie (Ron +) and Michael. Also her 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Rolland of 60 years and grandson Ryan. Mom is also survived by her one sister Emelia Laurin and many nieces and nephews. We will miss her dearly.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Stonewall.

Rev Barry Schoonbaert will officiate.

Interment will follow at Meadow Lea Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, auntie and friend at Rosewood Lodge with family at her side on January 13, 2023 at the age of 94 years.

Survived by her children Lois (Peter) Karish, Gwen (Serge) Sawrenko, Beverly Baines, Trevor (Brenda) Barnes. Grandchildren Kurt Karish(Holly), Kristie Karish, Kory (Billie Jo) Sawrenko, Kim Taylor, Katherine ( Mark) Tenosky, and Kyle Barnes. Great-Grandchildren – Karsen & Keenan Karish, Ethan & Quinn Sawrenko, Kaiden Taylor, Thomas Barnes & nieces and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Charlie Barnes and son-in-law Verne Baines.

Mom was born in Winnipeg July 30, 1928 and grew up in the Marquette area, where she attended school at Meadow Lea and later went to work at Safeway in Winnipeg.

Mom married Dad in August 1948 and they raised their children at Sandridge. Mom moved to Teulon in 2000 after Dads stroke and lived there until moving to Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall in March 2020.

Mom was a Mother and homemaker all her life while full time managing Sandridge General store and post office. Mom added mechanic’s helper to her resume as we children left home and helped Dad in his repair shop. Later in life, she did homecare for the elderly in her community.

Mom enjoyed playing cards (we called her the crib master) and loved teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren how to play. She also loved music, dancing and doing crafts in her spare time and although her sandwiches were a little on the thin side at times, she was an excellent baker making the best homemade bread and pastries.

We will miss her dearly.

As per her wishes cremation has taken place & celebration of life will be Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11 AM at St Peter Lutheran Church in Teulon, MB., lunch to follow and private internment at Sandridge Cemetery.

We are saddened to announce the passing of James Wallace Doucette on January 12, 2023 at Stonewall Hospital.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lois (nee Davey), children – Michael (Lorie), Denise, Ian (Michael), and Daniel (Sherry) and grandchildren- Anna (Andrew), Emily (Ryan), Jacob (Halie), Ellie, Christopher (Jordyn), Ryan, Alyssa (Daulton). He is also survived by sister-in-law, Judy Doucette and nephew Todd of Dauphin. In Ontario, sister-in-law Audrey, brothers-in-law Stan(Ruth), Paul, Murray, nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his Mother Mary, infant sister-June, brother Donald and nephew Rob Doucette as well as parents-in-law Lyle and Leita, brothers-in-law Calvin and Eugene.

Jim was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 28, 1936. His schooling was in Minnedosa, Brandon College and University of Manitoba where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, 1960. Jim and Lois were married in Baltimore, Ontario on September 14, 1963, lived and worked in Winnipeg and Brandon for 6 years before buying Gateway Drugs in The Pas, Manitoba. He was a knowledgeable and respected pharmacist who also found time for hunting and fishing, Chamber of Commerce, Masons and Shriners. Summers at Clearwater Lake cabin with family were special. He forged lasting friendships in those years. Jim’s Boxing Day “Bouillabaisse” was a highlight with family and friends.

Always a lover of history and a voracious reader, Jim attained a B.A. in History through Queen’s University. He belonged to Model Soldier Society and painted miniatures. After selling the business, Jim and Lois moved to Grosse Isle, closer to children. They enjoyed gardening and neighbours, community club and working on Centennial for St. Michael’s. When grandchildren came along, he made wooden toys and games as well as picnic tables and deck chairs for the kids. Declining health prompted a move to Lions Manor, Stonewall, where they lucked out again with good friends and neighbours.

We are very grateful for the kind and caring help of so many; paramedics, Michelle Loehmer’s squad of homecare nurses and homecare aides, the nurses and staff of Stonewall Hospital and Dr. D. Ventor. They enabled Jim to be at home till the last two days.

A graveside service will be held in June at St. Michael’s Anglican Cemetery.

October 11, 1954 – January 7, 2023      After a battle with cancer Kenny Makowski aged 68 years of Stonewall, passed away at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital.

Survived by siblings Bob (Terry), Dennis, Judy (Glen), Randy. Nieces Robyn (Greg), Kristy (Wade), Alisyn. Nephews Travis (Vicky) and Colby (Michaela). Great Nephew Leo. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Marian Makowski.

Growing up he always felt at home on the farm where he spent his time outside tending to the animals. Trucking was Kenny’s passion, he took great pride in his work and he always had a smile on his face. No matter what, Kenny was always their for his family and friends. If someone needed help, Kenny never hesitated to help if somebody needed a hand. He just lived life the way he wanted to.

Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

It’s with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rodney Dziadek at the age of 48. He passed away with family by his side at HSC Hospital on January 5th due to complications from a surgery for Necortizing Fasciitis. He was survived by his mother Linda Dziadek, two daughters Kamiele Dziadek and Taryn Molinski, brother Marty (Cindy and Kara) Dziadek, sister Daina (Kevin, Noah, and Max) Ojala, as well as his special partner Laura (Savannah and Quinton).

Rodney grew up in East Kildonan area. He attended elementary school at Salisbury Morse Place and graduated from Kildonan East Collegiate in 1992. He enjoyed all sports including hockey and sponge hockey. You could often find him out on the ice. He split his time in Winnipeg with his second home in Narcisse enjoying the outdoors. His love for hunting and quadding/snowmobiling in the country was second to none. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in nature. He loved being a father and sharing his love for the outdoors with his girls. They had many adventures over the years. Rodney had a heart of gold and always put others needs ahead of his own. His countless friends could always rely on him if they needed anything. From a young age Rodney had a strong personality. His friends were plentiful, from the Interlake to Charlie’s. We all know when Rodney was the happiest is when he was around family and friends. The special connection with is late father Norman was unlike any other. He was the happiest when they went hunting and fishing together. We can rest easier knowing you are both together watching over who you love.

We will love you forever, miss you always and will never forget you.

Funeral Services for Rodney will be held at Komarno Hall on Tuesday, January 10th at 11:00 am. with interment of ashes to follow at Inwood Cemetery.
