Osypa Lysak (nee Ryj)

March 19th, 1925 – August 11th, 2021     In the early morning of August 11th, 2021, with her daughters by her side, Osypa Lysak passed on to be with those who await her in Heaven, including her husband Wasyl, parents, and siblings.

Known widely as Baba, Osypa will be dearly missed. Left to cherish her memory are her family: daughters Lydia (Tommy) and Anne (Clarence); grandchildren David (Sherrie), Chrissie (Chris), Michael (Heather), Daniel (Erin), and Andrew (Xiao); and great-grandchildren Nick, Julia, Ben, Sam, Lilia, Ronan, Daschel, and Rosie.

Baba was born in the Ukraine and came to Canada in 1948. She was very proud and honoured to become a Canadian citizen; she loved what her new homeland offered. From humble beginnings, Mom and Dad built a wonderful life for their family.

Baba had a strong faith in God and lived her entire life accordingly. She was a life long member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church and instilled these values to her family. Family was very important to Baba, from the oldest to the youngest. Baba had a big heart, offering endless love and support to her family. She was interested in their careers, education and general well-being. She always had treats for the little ones and “hamburger money” as they became older.

A liturgy was held at Komarno Church on Monday, August 16th 2021. Baba’s final resting place is at Holy Trinity Cemetery beside her beloved Wasyl.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Loudon for his care and the medical staff of Stonewall Hospital for their compassionate care. Thank You to Ken Loehmer for his professional services.

William Bryan Palmer

September 5th, 1942 – August 9th, 2021     It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Bryan, our husband, Dad, and Grandpa (Pa) at the Stonewall Hospital.

Bryan is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bernice; his children, Mike (Laura) and Lori (Kevin); his beloved grandchildren, Brittany, Alycia, Evan, Aidan, Ethan, and Owen; brother, Gerry (Dorothy) Palmer, sister-in-law, Florence Poloski (late husband Andy), many nieces and nephews; his lifelong friends, Jim Minaker (his partner in crime) and Janet, and Joan Fisher (late husband Dave). Bryan was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew.

Bryan, the youngest son, was born to William (Bill) and Winnifred (Winnie) Palmer on September 5th, 1942, in Winnipeg. He grew up on the family farm at Grosse Isle. Bryan and Bernice raised their family on the farm and Bryan was proud to have his son, Mike, and grandson, Evan, take over the family farm. His first job was at Oakland Hatchery in Winnipeg. Bryan was always interested in machinery and took courses at Red River Community College. Bryan worked as a mechanic over the years at Agro Equipment, Argus Farm Equipment Ltd., and International Harvester. In 1979 Bryan moved to Cummins Mid Canada where he started as a mechanic, served as shop foreman, and retired as a customer relations representative. Upon retirement, Bryan began his own business venture, Palmers’ Parts. He enjoyed creating connections with his customers, telling stories, and sharing his passion for anything mechanical. Bryan was one of the founding members of the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department helping his neighbours and community.

Bryan’s hobbies centered around farm life and were shared and enjoyed with his friends and family. These hobbies included old-time threshing, attending the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion in Austin, a farm tractor toy collection, and travelling to toy shows to add new pieces to his collection. Bryan was one of the creators of the Stonewall Toy Show that ran for 10 years and was enjoyed by young and old. Over the years Bryan met many people and seemed to know someone everywhere he went.

Bryan and Bernice travelled to many destinations in North America with friends and family over the years taking in the sites and scenery. Their favourite vacations were the two spent on the beach in Mazatlan, Mexico and the bus trip to the East Coast of Canada with Les and Joan. Bryan enjoyed going for drives looking at crops and he always knew a shortcut or the best way to get to your destination.

Bryan and Bernice were proud spectators at their grandchildren’s many sporting events including figure skating, hockey, and fastball.

The family would like to thank Dr. Graham and the entire staff of Stonewall Hospital for the wonderful care Bryan received.

A private family interment was  held at Stonewall Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Colin William Russell Crockatt

(September 26, 1986 – August 5, 2021)     Our favourite curling club organizer, forever farmer, and witty friend Colin passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021. Not unexpectedly, but still too soon for those he left behind.

Colin is survived by his wife, Pam, and daughter Paige; parents, Barbara and Russell Crockatt, Pam’s parent’s Marilyn & Clement Desrochers, and Pam’s siblings Tina (Cory), Joedy (Kim), Tannis (Gerald), and Cindy (Steven), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Sadie and Bill Crockatt and Dorothy and Willis Doherty.

Born at Grace General Hospital on September 26, 1986, Colin was welcomed with joy by his parents, family and friends in Argyle. Colin grew up on the farm west of Argyle, and attended both elementary and high school in Warren. He enjoyed playing baseball in the summer, and playing hockey and curling in the winter. He was a very skilled curler and was a great ambassador for the sport. It was no surprise when he entered the Agriculture Degree program at the University of Manitoba in hopes of one day taking over the family farm. Colin was very involved in student life at U of M. As a member of FASO, he was able to put his organizing and social planning skills to good use. He met the love of his life, Pam, in University. When Colin brought Pam home to meet family and friends in the Argyle community everyone was pleased to see that she not only did not put up with any of his nonsense; but also that they were a great match as she was just as quick as he was and just as community driven. Married in 2013, Colin and Pam made a great team, working together on the farm or organizing community events like Ham/Turkey Bingo, quiz nights or bonspiels at the curling rink. By his side, during the medical struggles throughout the years Pam was always Colin’s source of strength and solace. In December of 2019, Colin & Pam welcomed their daughter Paige Anne. Colin had always wanted a daughter and he loved Paige so much. He was so happy to share important experiences with her; like riding in the tractor and combine, watching Jays and Jets games, and enjoying the art of a good nap.

With what could be considered a unique sense of humour at times, Colin enjoyed telling tales to pull friends’ legs. Like how the first ever box of Corn Flakes, Box No. 1, was found at the Argyle Store, and that’s why there was a film crew there that day. Or putting the Argyle sign at 67 to good use “Men’s Support Group Wednesday Nights at the Rink” aka men’s night curling. Or posting kijiji ads to try and get your forever 3rd wheel a date to the Garth Brooks concert, and making international news with it.

Colin had a big impact on everyone with whom he dealt; be it in the community growing up, during University or while teaching an Agriculture Diploma course at the U of M, being a part of the Marquette Co-op board, being the icemaker at both Stonewall and Argyle curling rinks, and just being a true member of the Argyle (and greater Interlake) farming community. The epitome of wit with a wicked sense of humour, he loved a good verbal spar, a good laugh, and good company. Colin was that rare person who will be missed not just by friends and family but also by entire communities.

Private family interment has taken place at the Argyle Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to a celebration of life at the family farm which will be held on Saturday August 14, 2021 between 4-6pm. Casual dress and please bring your own lawn chairs, no formal program it is to be “come and go”. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Argyle Curling Club (Box 31, Argyle, MB R0C 0B0).

Donald Butcher

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Don Butcher on July 28, 2021 at age 86. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Dianne (nee Staveley) and son Ward.

Mourning his passing are his loving partner Irene Corrigal and her children Rick (Ardelle), Wendy, Terry (Kathy) and Bonnie and their families, daughter Joanne Gordon and son-in-law Rob, grandsons Devon (Chantelle Bethge) and Reilly Gordon, Harlan Butcher (Mom Janna Butcher), and Rick Nelson (Chelsea, Damian and Ryder, and Jazmyn) as well as sisters-in-law Bev Butcher and Norrene Evans (Kelvin Palmer) and their families.

Dad grew up in West Kildonan with his brother Bert and sister Patricia, enjoying many sports including soccer, hockey and curling. Dad and Mom were married May 16, 1959 and the births of Ward and Joanne completed our family. He worked as a salesman which took us to Saskatoon and Calgary. Many great memories were made camping and fishing, especially at our spot at Wakaw Lake. Dad enjoyed hunting ducks and geese, with his labrador retriever Duffy and often his pal Charlie Street.

After moving back to Winnipeg in 1975, many happy times were spent at the family cottage at Petersfield before buying a cottage of our own at 35 Pine in Matlock. Mom and Dad enjoyed great times with family and friends and a few trips to Mexico. Dad started golfing, often with his dear friend Gary Hares with whom he had many fun times on and off the course. Gary and his wife Beverly were a great support to Dad after Mom’s untimely passing in 1992.

Ward and I were very happy when Dad met Irene as she brought happiness back into his life, and I am forever grateful. Together they enjoyed golfing, travel and spending time with the grandsons and watching them grow up.

About 7 years ago Dad started showing signs of dementia and moved in with Irene in Teulon. His health continued to fail and without Irene’s loving care and infinite patience he would have had to be moved to a care home. Ward’s death in 2017 was a further blow to Dad from which he never seemed to recover.

A celebration of Dad’s life will be held Thursday August 12 from 2-6 PM in the Tache Room of the Norwood Hotel at 112 Marion Street. We respectfully request that only fully vaccinated people attend.

A private graveside service at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society or Bruce Oakes Recovery Centre.

Tracey Lynn Sigurdson

It is with great sadness that the family of Tracey Lynn Sigurdson announce her passing on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the age of 57 with family by her side.

Tracey will be lovingly missed by her husband of 34 years, Miles, and her children Scott (Maegan), Bradley (Amber), Thor (Charmaine), grandson Axel and her “little sweetheart” dog Daisy. She will also be fondly remembered by her mother Judy Rothwell, siblings Kim (Marty), Debbie, Tim (Corie) and Chad, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends.

Tracey is predeceased by her father, Edward and in-laws Thor and Betty Sigurdson.

Tracey was born on April 28, 1964 in Winnipeg, MB to Judy and Edward Rothwell and grew up in Woodlands, MB. She attended high school at Warren Collegiate Institute where she excelled at academics and played on as many sports teams as she could. As a teen she loved spending time at rodeos and barrel racing with her horse Geronimo. She went on to acquire post-secondary education in accounting and utilized her degree while doing the book work for Sig’s Grill, and working at institutions such as MTS and Stonewall Pharmacy.

In 1987 she married her best friend, Miles and soon after they purchased their beautiful property in Warren, MB to raise their family. Tracey always remained active and it was a difficult task to convince her to ever sit down. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as archery, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, quading, canoeing, golfing and spent many days out-fishing her family on the lake.

Tracey finished her career with her dream job as Fundraising Accountant at Oak Hammock Marsh for Ducks Unlimited. She loved the view outside her window and walks through the marsh where she could watch her birds, ducks and all the little critters she loved so dearly. Her co-workers at Ducks Unlimited were a second family to her, and she will especially miss little Louie who would frequently visit and brighten her days. Tracey would spend endless hours in her beautiful gardens tending to her flowers and was a talented artist, she loved painting the beautiful world around her, particularly all her flowers and birds.

A special thanks to the IERHA Palliative care team, nurses Christine and Meagan, Dr. Graham, the staff at Selkirk CancerCare, Dr. Jill, Brad and Laura Woods, Hermon Heuging, Brian and Heather Oughton, Diane Gardarsdottir and countless friends and family who held her hand through this journey and fought alongside her. Thanks to all who sent their love as well as meals and flowers, especially our friends at Ducks Unlimited.

Tracey had the purest of hearts and the most contagious laugh, she had a gentle spirit and the most beautiful soul. Her smile was sure to light up any room and her caring nature was like no other. She will be missed more than words could ever say but never, ever forgotten. She loved this life, but we know she will love heaven so much more.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada at www.ducks.ca Select “Donate Now” to make donations on the “Give in Memoriam” page and ensure to include the intent for donation as “In Memory of Tracey Sigurdson.” A picnic table in memory of Tracey will be displayed at Oak Hammock Marsh.
