It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom/granny Dorothy Bowman (nee Anderson) on June 12, 2023 at Stonewall Health Centre. It brings us comfort knowing that mom is with her Heavenly Father and is reunited with our dad/papa, whom we lost less than seven months ago.

Mom was born on October 15, 1948 in Dauphin River Manitoba, to Charles and Mary Anderson.

She leaves to mourn, her daughters Bonita (Joel) and Leanne (Tyler). Grandchildren, Tanner, Lucas, Danica and Jonah. Siblings, Beatrice, John (friend Willie), Alex James (Vivian), Joe (Rose), Sam (Eileen), Marilyn (Norman), Harold (Anne), Brian and her very special niece Shirley (Edward) who she thought as a sister.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Bill, parents Charles and Mary Anderson, in-laws Bert and Verlie Bowman, siblings Marina Letander, Ida Beardy, Walter Anderson and Priscilla Anderson. Sister in laws Elva Anderson, Dorothy Anderson, Rosanne Anderson and brother in law Daniel Beardy. Nephew Brent Anderson and long-life friend Edna Valen.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Gunton Hall in Gunton Manitoba.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Beardy, Andrew Halchuk, Ryan Anderson, Chris Anderson, Stewart Anderson, Lawrence Letander. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Williams, Gary Jahns, Dennis Jahns, Audrey Letander, Norman Halchuk, Gary Smaldon, Matt Steigerwald and Alex Letander. We would also like to consider all those who were close to mom and loved her dearly to consider themselves as honorary pallbearers.

It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our Mum and Nama, Mary Ann on May 31, 2023.

Born Feb 1 1939, Mary Ann was raised on the farm in Balmoral along with her 7 siblings and her parents John and Evelyn (Vincent) Good. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter Brenda (Roche), son in law Denis Woods, grandchildren Charla (Andy) Harmsen, Brady (Ashley) Woods, Rylee Woods (Joel Downey). Her great grandchildren Brynn, Halle, Emmett, Owen, Kohl, Paige, Cameron, and Chelsea. Her siblings Don (Sylvia) Good, Kitty Stewart, Gloria (Jim) Ackland. Brother-in law Ed (Marie) Pull. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Mum was predeceased by her husband Ron, her parents John and Evelyn, and her great grandson BJ Woods. Her siblings Lionel (Eleanor), Sam (Beryl), Jack (Pat), Enid (Reg) Coburn, brother-in-law Glenn Stewart, as well as many other family and friends.

In their retirement, my parents were able to travel lots and enjoyed camping with Charla, Brady, and Rylee. Travel continued after the passing of Ron to various places including Mexico, Arizona, Alberta and BC.

Mum was an Honorary Life Member of the Stonewall Legion Branch #52 serving on the executive in different capacities including President. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years.

Mum had a passion for curling. She was a life member of the Stonewall Curling Club. She proudly cheered on Brenda, many nieces, nephews, Manitoban and Canadian teams, and attended numerous World Curling Championships both in Canada and overseas.

Over the last few years the beginnings of dementia set in and in May 2021, Mum became a resident of Rosewood Lodge which was an adjustment for us all, but she enjoyed the other residents and staff. She especially enjoyed the music and entertainment and did not hesitate to have a dance when she could find a partner. Mum was happy when her sister Kitty became a resident and “The Sisters” spent many hours together; it was a two for one deal when you went for a visit.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2023 at 11 AM at the Stonewall Legion Hall with a lunch to follow.

We wish to express our gratitude to the nurses and staff at Rosewood Lodge and Stonewall Hospital for their love and care of our Mum and Nama.

5 March 1932 – 28 May 2023      At the age of 91, Janet passed away peacefully on the 28th of May, 2023. She was comforted by her family in the Stonewall Hospital at the time of her passing.

Janet was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on the 5 March, 1932, to parents Charles and Jessy Smith. Predeceased are her brother Charles Smith and sister Marion Kennedy (Smith). Portage la Prairie was home until she met Wesley then they spent time in Beaver, Austin and McGregor. In 1961 they settled in Stonewall.

Janet leaves behind her loving family, her husband of 68 years, Wesley McGillvray and her children Karen (Ross Sheldon), Jim (Holly Beasse), Kelli (Philip Palmer) and Kristi (Mark Painter). Janet was also a beloved Grandma to Jacky, Carly, Hayden, Kaliesa, Jules, Wesley and Tom as well as a great Grandma to 5 wonderful great grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed, Rest in Peace Mom.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

January 22, 1944 – May 27, 2023

It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our husband, father, and Gigi, James (Jim), at his home on May 27th, 2023, at the age of 79.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years, Vivian, and his children, David (Tanice), Cathy (Carl), and Donna (Miles). Gigi will also be remembered by his precious grandchildren, Deneika (Jamie), Ashton (Geneil), Alyssa, and Ethan. Uncle Jimmy will be remembered with love by his special niece, Claudia (Chris).

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Catherine; sisters Mary, Annie, and Victoria; and brother Bill.

The youngest of five children, Jim was born in Winnipeg on January 22, 1944, and grew up in Stonewall, MB. Jim married Vivian Kostjuk on June 19, 1965 and the couple raised their three children in Arborg, MB. Jim worked for the Manitoba Telephone System for 37 years as a Central Officeman, retiring in 1999.

Jim served on the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church council and volunteered on the Arborg and District Ambulance, Fire Department, and Arborg Hospital boards. One of Jim’s passions was serving on the Interlake Ducks Unlimited board for many years. Jim enjoyed hunting and his prize possession, a 1967 Dodge Charger, owned from new.

The family would like to thank his homecare workers with a special thanks to homecare nurse, Cynthia. Cynthia, your help that day will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM, Saturday June 10, 2023, at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, 301 River Road in Arborg, MB. A private burial will happen following the service with a lunch reception to follow at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church.

June 28, 1961 – May 22, 2023    With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of Barry Enberg on May 22, 2023 at his home in the Norris Lake District.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Agnes, brother Wayne (Carol), sisters Marlene (William and Jemiah) and Tracey (Michael), nieces Laura and Nicole, as well many beloved family and friends.

Barry was predeceased by his father Edward, sister Cheryll and lifelong best friend Larry McMahon.

Barry attended school in Teulon and graduated in 1979. After high school he started his carpentry career with Bill Reynolds out of Balmoral. After working with several crews and partners, he went on to establish his own business, Enberg Carpentry.

Barry was a sports enthusiast who played several sports including baseball, hockey, and broomball. He coached youth baseball, junior co-ed broomball, and at age 18 was president of the Inwood Sports Club. As a player, he started the Hillside Rebels co-ed broomball team and was an orginal member of the Inwood Invaders men’s hockey team, both starting in the 1979-80 season.

The summertime was fastball with the Teulon Reds (1978-91) and co-ed slow pitch with the Teulon Inmates, starting in 1992. Other hobbies included raising exotic birds, fishing, and camping.

Barry was a partner with the group that bought the Inwood golf course in 1989 from John Olsen. His partners included his brother Wayne, Frank Thorkelson and Ed Waluk.

During the 2nd season of 1990, Barry was diagnosed as bipolar, a disorder he would battle with the rest of his life. He then stepped away from the golf course to focus on his carpentry career.

As Barry battled his disorder, he was lucky to be surrounded by many friends and family members who were there to help him along his journey. Barry kept working up to the time of his death on May 22, 2023.

Barry lived life the way he wanted to, adventure after adventure. If he wasn’t herding bison across the slough on a snowmobile to help a friend, he was expanding his many properties. He was man of simple pleasures. He loved country music and bonfires with friends and family.

Any one who knew Barry enjoyed his company. His natural charm and conversation were always welcome.

Barry’s legacy will live on with every beautiful house, shop or cabin he built through the Interlake as well as in the memories of everyone who loved him.

A graveside service will be held at Norris Lake Cemetery on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 1:30 pm, with lunch to follow at Inwood Community Hall.

Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with lung and heart disease, Jim passed with his wife by his side.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary; sons, Steven (Dawn), Corbin and Connor; Philip (Crystal); Jason (Michele), Tamara, Jayden and Jorja; sister Marion Stobert.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nellie and Joseph Symynyshen; brother Eddie; and sister Jean Piche.

Jim loved the farm but after his health issues he sold the farm and moved to the House of Hope in Arborg.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg, with interment at Silver Cemetery. Reception to follow at Silver Community Centre.

Iris Hohl was born July 6, 1940 on the farm near Innisfree, Alberta and passed away at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 16, 2023 at the age of 82.

She married Henry Hohl in Vegreville, Alberta on October 21, 1961. In 1964, they moved to Thompson, Manitoba and in 1992 they moved to Paint Lake Provincial Park living in a beautiful cabin they built together. After 43 years in northern Manitoba, Mom and Dad moved to Teulon, Manitoba where they enjoyed making many new friends. Recently Mom moved to River Ridge Retirement Residence in Winnipeg due to illness.

Mom was a hard worker and took pride in a job well done. She worked as a hairdresser and a waitress in her earlier years. Her love of food led her to building a small home catering business that delighted many who attended weddings, funerals, baby showers, anniversaries and such with her culinary skills. Baba, as she was affectionately known, always had freezers full of baking and Ukrainian dishes such as perogies and cabbage rolls that she happily and proudly shared with her family, neighbors and friends.

Besides feeding people, Mom’s greatest joy was her family. She loved visiting with friends and family. She treasured new and old friendships and stayed in touch on the phone. She was a positive spiritual person and was very caring. She had a tender heart and was kind. This attracted many people who became life-long friends. Mom loved the sunshine, her flowers and her home. Recently, she became interested in composting and recycling because she wanted to save just a small piece of the planet for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom spent many hours Swedish weaving, knitting and crocheting that she also shared with those she loved. Playing cards and doing puzzles were favorite pastimes as was dancing both when she was younger and in the Teulon area later on. For those who may remember, it was beautiful to watch Iris and Henry dance.

She is survived by her children Jennell (Bob) Majeran, Kenton (Sherri) Hohl and Shelley (Brian) Mousseau. Grandchildren Aly (Dalyn) Flatt, Kristy (Josh) McInnes, Kayla Hohl (Ryan) and Kyle Hohl , great grandchildren Axl and Jace Flatt and Iyla McInnes. Iris is survived by sisters Elsie Cummings and Leona (Peter) Pauk, brother Michael Tarapacki, sisters-in-law Phyllis Tarapacki, and Joan Hohl and sister and brother-in-law Bertha and Roy Plant. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and special “daughter” Heather, all of whom will miss her so very deeply and will cherish her memory.

Iris is predeceased by her husband Henry Hohl, her parents John and Mary Tarapacki, sisters Anne and Sylvia and brothers Peter, Edward and Joseph (in infancy), sister-in-law Lillian Tarapacki, and brothers-in-law Walter Burak and Lawrence Hohl.

The family would like to thank all of those that helped during this difficult journey including friends, doctors, nurses and support workers. There are many, and too numerous to mention here. Your love, support and compassion is very appreciated.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, December 11th 1961 to May 10th 2023 in Stonewall, MB.

Leaving behind husband Rob, son James (Christina), daughter Amanda (Justin), sister Evelyn, grandchildren: Tanisha, Natalie, Devon, Diego, Sadie, Kirby, Kix. great grandchildren: Madivh, Aesir, Fenrir as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pre-deceased: husband Kirby, father Lloyd, mother Winnifred, stepmother Doreen, siblings Geraldine, Doug, Warren, and Joyce.

Susan worked hard in many different fields but spent most of her time in the trucking industry. She loved spending time with her family, but especially with her grand children. Susan never missed a single sporting event, concert, choir or play. She was their biggest fan. Susan spent her summers outdoors farming, camping, quadding, fishing, and winters snowmobiling, driving to hockey and ice fishing. Susan was always there anytime her friends or family needed her; she was always ready with open arms for a good old hug.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Gunton – Greenwood Hall, Gunton, Manitoba.
