Edward Barham
Obituary
Passed on
On January 17th, 2018 Edward William Barham passed away at the Goodwin Lodge in Teulon, Manitoba. Dad was predeceased by our Mom (Sheila) and sisters Mary and Anne, and most recently his partner Jean. He is survived by his sister Irene, his children: Lance (Grace), Scott (Celia), Mary-Lou (Dan), Fred (Katrin), Sandy, Barbara (Lyle) and numerous grandchildren.
Dad was born April 12th 1926 in a log home on the SW35-9-7E in the Monominto district. Dad was a good student and was able to complete 9 grades in 6 years. Always sketching, he did get the strap for drawing pictures of farm animals in the act of reproduction. As a young gent Dad said he thought of himself as a man after ringing two bulls in one day at the age of 14. He was an avid hunter and trapper when time permitted. He purchased his first rifle at the age of 15 by trapping and skinning six skunks earning $18.00. He shot his last deer at 86 years old using the same gun. Dad was quite proud of his herd of Hereford cattle and sold many for breeding stock. At ease in the limelight, Dad was often called upon to MC various community events and weddings sharing his brand of humor. An active community member Dad served on many boards including: Monominto School Board, Anola Community Club, Cooks Creek Conservation District, Springfield 4H Beef Club and numerous picnic and concert committees. Dad had a strong work ethic and was never happy being idle. Always the first up to build a campfire or assist his kids in his retirement. Dad and Mom travelled most of Canada and the US by car as well as the Arctic. A trip wasn’t a trip unless you spent 12 hours a day behind the wheel. Dad was one of the original group that cleared the bush with axes to create the Monominto Cemetery. As Dad would say when it was time to go home (I’m gonna leave ya) and he has.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date at the Monominto Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Mike and the staff at the Teulon Hospital and Goodwin Lodge. Donations in Dads memory can be made to the Monominto Cemetery. Contact Wade Claydon 204-866-3674.
