Kenneth John Miller

Passed on

After a lengthy illness it is with heavy hearts the family of Kenneth John Miller wishes to announce his passing on Saturday April 28th 2018. He is survived by his two sons: Cameron (Sandra) and Brian, grandchildren Shawn (Jenna) & Chelsey (Andrew) great-grand children Isobel & Alec. He is also survived by his two sisters Eileen (Elmore), Denise (Gary) and by many brothers and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine and his son Lyndon. Ken was born in Argyle MB. He grew up on the family homestead and was educated in a small one room school in Argyle. Upon leaving school he went to southern Ontario and learned the trade of meat cutting. Ken then came back to Manitoba and secured a job at Loblaws where he met the love of his life Catherine. They married in 1961, and shortly after moved to Vancouver where they lived for the next six years. In 1971 they moved back to Winnipeg to open Miller’s Meats where they worked tirelessly side by side. He took great pride in the fact that the business is still thriving today, he loved to stop in at the different locations and would also help out around the holidays working alongside his family. After retiring in 1992 he and Cathy would travel extensively often spending their winters in Myrtle Beach. Hawaii was also a special place to them, with many other destinations visited around the world. He loved to spend time at his cottage in Gimli and frequented the local golf courses. As a avid sports fan he loved to attend Jets games, watch curling and baseball. Spending time with his great grand children always brought a huge smile to his face and a sparkle in his eye. He will forever be missed by all of us. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 7 at 10:00 am at Thomson in The Park Funeral Home, 1291 Mc Gillivary Blvd. Special thanks to the staff on the 2nd floor at the Misericordia Hospital for the excellent care.

On behalf of the Len Miller family, I would like to extend our deepest condolences . My dad and Ken were very close as children and teens, and always enjoyed any opportunity to catch up. Despite the many miles between Ontario and Manitoba, they always kept in touch via phone calls and letters . On behalf of myself, my brothers Gary and Doug, and our families, please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. You are in our thoughts . Ken was a true gentleman in a world where those people are becoming harder and harder to find. He was a fair and honest businessman who treated each customer with respect. The world was a better place because of him. My condolences to Cam and the rest of the family.
