Susan Grace Yake
Obituary
Passed on
August 10, 1959 – November 12, 2025
With deep sadness, the family of Susan Grace Yake announces her passing on November 12, 2025 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Susan is lovingly remembered by her partner, Bob; her sons, Sean and Braden (Maureen); her mother, Mary; her siblings, Joy, Mike (Cheryl), and Karen; her stepsons, Chris (Andrea) and Mark (Cassandra); and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her father, Harland, and her brother, John.
Born on August 10, 1959, in Manitou, Manitoba, Susan was raised on the family farm in Snowflake as the third of five children. Growing up surrounded by wide-open fields, animals, and the steady rhythm of farm life shaped her enduring love of the outdoors and her lifelong connection to horses.
One of Susan’s greatest passions was horseback riding, and in 2010, she was able to make her dream come true of buying an acreage with Bob and her own horses. She also found joy in sewing, especially in creating beautiful quilts for her family.
Susan will be remembered for her calm strength, her deep devotion to family, and the unshakeable kindness she offered to everyone she met.
A private service to honour Susan’s life will be held for close friends and family.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she shared will carry on in all who knew her.

I wrote the following letter to Susan Oct 19 2025 but didn’t get to send it. I thought I had plenty of time. I wish I’d sent it right away but I think Susan knew how I felt about her. To all the Yake family & especially Aunt Mary, Bob & Susan’s boys, our very deepest sympathy. Dear Susan, I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately and wanted to write you this letter. I wanted to check in and tell you how much you mean to me. We’ve shared little over the years due to the miles between us. Since we moved back to Manitoba, our connection has developed. We found a mutual love for quilting —I think we got that love from Grandma Yake as I knew she loved to quilt too. I feel we’re getting to know each other better, and I love that. You’ve become a special person in my life. I can’t imagine what you’re going through, but I admire your strength, grace, and courage. You inspire everyone around you. I feel so privileged to get to know you better since we moved back. You are such a light with the grit & tenacity to fight this demon. Thank you for the love, laughter, kindness, and all that we’ve shared. Please know that you’re deeply loved. If you want to talk, know that I’m here. I wish we lived closer so I could hug you. A good hug often helps heal. Cancer sucks! I hope you feel surrounded by peace, love, and warmth. Praying for healing Dearest love, Geri May all of you keep the memories of Susan in your hearts forever. A very special individual with a heart of gold. Gone too soon …. RIP Susan

Growing up in the small community of Snowflake everyone knew everyone. Susan‘s family and my family were the best of neighbours and friends. Susan would babysit me and my 2 brothers. We were in 4-H and figure skating together. Deepest Condolences to Susan’s family and close friends. RIP Susan🙏💔
