November 29, 1937 – November 23, 2024

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Henry (Kelly) Isbister on Saturday, November 23, 2024 one week shy of his 87^th birthday.

Kelly was predeceased by his parents Harry and Lillian, brother Colin (Ike), brothers-in-law Ted Patterson and Jim McMahon, sister-in-law Ellen Isbister and niece Lynn McDonald.

Kelly is survived by his brothers Bryant (Donna) and Wayne (Dianne); sisters Bev (Scotty) Birnie, Linda (Robert) Harrison, Judy Patterson, Brenda (Danny) Granger and Beth (Murray) Last; sister-in-law Emily Phipps; numerous nieces and nephews and very good friend Larry Rode.

Cremation has taken place and as per Kelly’s request no formal funeral service will be held.

We would like to thank the staff at Ironwood Supportive Housing in Pinawa and most recently Springfield Place in Oakbank for taking such good care of Henry.

MARCH 20, 1931 – November 19, 2024

Peacefully at Betel Home in Gimli on Nov. 19, 2024 Mom passed away at the age of 93 years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Ned, infant son, parents Olga and Josef Valka, brother Joe (Nettie), sisters Emily (Jerry); Betty (George), Mary and Anne (Ed).

She will be remembered by her children Lyle (Rosemary), Myles (Jean), Gwen (Chris) and Cory (Marie).

Her grandchildren Alison (Dean), Owen; Curtis (Jake); Tim (Lauren), Scott (Ashlee), Michelle (Ben), Joel (Chelsea) along with 11 great grandchildren and 1 great – great grandchild. As well as Godsons Larry Valka and Barry Hudyma and special friends Alice Boychyn and Delores Darowany.

Mom was born in Fraserwood and then the family moved to Teulon where she resided until April 2019.

Mom enjoyed crafting, baking, cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting.

She was first employed as a school teacher at Skogan School. After raising her children she took a healthcare-aid course and worked at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon for 21 years. But she most enjoyed looking after her grandkids, visits from them, phone calls or facetime with them.

We would like to thank all staff at Betel for making Mom feel welcome and also for the care she received especially in her final days. Words cannot express our gratitude to the staff. There are too many to mention by name.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11:00 am. at Gunton – Greenwood Community Hall, Gunton, MB., viewing at 10:30 am with interment at Windsor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Mom’s wish was for donations to the Windsor Cemetery c/o John Logan, Box 246, Teulon, Manitoba, R0C 3B0.

June 29, 1961 – November 18, 2024

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marc Fontaine on November 18, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Marc will be forever remembered and greatly missed by the love of his life Teresa; brothers Real (Doris), Guy (Bonita), Luc; nephews Remi (Trish), Paul (Shay), Jules (Brandi), Jeremiah; brother in- laws Jeff (Corlie), Wade (Morgann) nieces Kendall & McKenzie; along with his great nieces and nephews.

Marc was predeceased by his father Joseph-Marie (1977), mother Lilliane (1984), brother Louis (1998) and in-laws Ken (2003) and Iris (2011).

Marc grew up on the family farm east of St. Laurent and was very proud of his roots.    His passion for hockey was evident as he played the game on various teams and competed in many tournaments.     

Marc worked in the pipeline industry for the past 20+ years on various projects across Canada.  He was well known in the industry for his physical strength and strong work ethic.  Marc was a man of his word and wasn’t afraid to voice his opinion whether you liked it or not.

Marc was an avid outdoorsman and relished in all that nature had to offer.  He loved listening to the birds, observing wildlife and breathing in the clean fresh air.  He enjoyed being out in the elements and took advantage of every opportunity he had to go fishing whether it be on the ice, in the boat or along the shore.  He also liked to go quadding, snowmobiling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.  

Anyone who knew Marc will remember his keen eye for detail.  His love for woodworking and taking on building projects was a self-taught skillset, and he was looking forward to being able to do more of it in retirement. 

As per Marc’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2025.

Special thanks to the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for the care and compassion that was provided and shown towards Marc right from diagnosis in July to his final days.

Marc – you were such a good man and loved by so many.  I was so blessed to be a part of your life.  Until we meet again my love – there are no goodbyes for us.  Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart – Love Teresa

On Monday, November 4, 2024, with her granddaughter Crystal by her side, Mom left us peacefully to be with Dad, many relatives, friends and her Saviour.

Predeceased by her parents, Fred & Marvel, her in-laws; Charles and Joan, brother-in-law Percy & wife Elsie and our father, Leslie. 

Mom was the eldest of Fred & Marvel Boyd and raised on a farm west of Argyle Mb.

Coincidently across the road was a young man, who only had eyes for her, and eventually became our parents.

At an early age she started surgically operating on her dolls. Her passion was to become a Registered Nurse, just as her Aunt Jennie Boyd was. Another passion, was to be a teacher, so for a brief time she taught in the Long Plains District and then decided to follow her life long dream. And so in 1954 Mom graduated from the Children’s Hospital of Nursing, Wpg. And later that same year, Mom and Dad were married on a beautiful harvest day, October 15th. She moved across the road and there, their family began.

Mom stayed at home raising us 3, and with their hired man Mike, he and Dad milked cows, field work, until an accident in ’69 changed Dad’s mobility. Mike, her mother-in-law, young Fred and Rod helped where needed as Dad recovered and supervised.

Thankfully Mom had her nursing degree and started at Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall. And eventually became Head Nurse. She took many courses in Winnipeg and Ottawa upgrading her knowledge. She held that position with pride. She loved her responsibilities, her coworker’s and was very compassionate of her patients. She worked there until her retirement in ’92. 

Now there was more time for her and Dad to travel. They both enjoyed a bus trip to the Maritimes and visiting relatives out west. More time to spend in the greenhouse, perennial gardens, their gazebo and most importantly, their grandchildren. She also cared for her mother too. She was an active member in the Interlake Horticulture for years and won many awards. A clock she was presented for ‘Best Rose’, in ’97 hung in their kitchen and then in her room at Rosewood Lodge. 

When Dad passed in ’02, Mom continued with her park like setting yard, a bigger, stronger sunroom was built. You could find her in there enjoying her lunch, reading a book and watching what was going on at Rod’s shop. She started watching curling, her favorites were Jennifer Jones and Reid Carruthers. She received signed autographs from them both. Family gifted her with more bird and hummingbird feeders, furniture for the sunroom. She went on an Alaskan cruise with her cousin Joy Brindley. And many other outings. Spending time with her family was very important to her and all of her family visited quite regularly. 

Unfortunately in 2020 Mom fell ill. She had to leave her sanctuary she loved so much, but knew it was being looked after. 

Mom is survived by her brother Bob Boyd (Lorraine).

She leaves love, dedication & memories to us; Fred (Beth), Rod (Barb) and Val (Carl).

Grandchildren that she & Dad adored; Amanda (Martine), Tanya (Trevor), Morgan (Chris), Travis (Danielle), Crystal, Cheryl (Evan), Candace (Blair), Justin (Samantha), Charlie (Leanne), and Dylan. 

The great grandchildren that kept her young; Kaydence, Autumn (Noah), Mykayla, Bristol, Logan, Brayden, Karmen, Kallie, Gordon, Claire & her newest great grandson, Levi.

Service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Argyle Community Hall, 55 E PR 323, Argyle, MB followed by a luncheon. 

Interment at St. Oswald’s Cemetery, family only.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rosewood Lodge Stonewall for the exceptional care Mom received. We can’t thank you enough.

And to Ken Loehmer and staff to get us through this difficult time.

December 28, 1971 – November 1, 2024

     The family of Glenda Kathryn Baldwin sadly announce her passing while vacationing in California on November 1, 2024 at the age of 52.

     Predeceased by her father Glenn Baldwin. Survived by her mother Elaine Baldwin (nee Madill); brothers David, Sean and three nephews and a large extented Baldwin family.

     A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Quarry Park in Stonewall.

October 30, 1940 – October 27, 2024

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Dad on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the age of 83. He will be sadly missed by his children: Melissa (Trevor) and Kenneth. Granddaughter Britney and Great Granddaughter Emily. Dad took joy in being called “Grumpus” vs Grandpa by both Britney & Emily.

Henry met his future wife Jackie having been set up on a blind date, they first resided in Winnipeg, moving briefly to Woodlands then to finally settle in Stony Mountain. Mom & Dad were married for 42 years when mom passed away in 2007. Dad has always been an avid gardener, this love of gardening he has passed down to his granddaughter Britney, as many know dad did not believe in a small garden, the abundance of crops he would get some years had us scrambling to give away or donate to the Interlake Food Bank a place where both mom & dad volunteered. Dad had a passion for his family tree & local history and spent countless hours working on it contacting family far and wide, having Melissa spend hours typing information for him. This hobby Melissa continues to this day.

Dad grew up in the Grassmere District on the Lindley family farm. Where at the age of 21 he enrolled in the Army, he received an Honorably Release in 1964 and shortly thereafter he started his employment with the Government of Canada as a Correctional Officer at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary, retiring after 31.5 of service. After retirement he gained a few new hobbies, one being travelling. He would read an interesting story about a place and decide the next day to go and check it out. Once such a trip saw him drive out 3 – 4 hours, not find the place to return home, get the correct info and do it again the next day, now successful in finding it and taking the pictures, he wanted. We knew exactly why there were so many Km’s on his trucks. He also loved to collect stoneware crocks, John Deer tractors both big & small, and glass bottles. On many occasions Kenny would warn Dad saying he would line them up and use them for target practice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 10^th, 2024, from 1 – 3 pm at Grosse Isle Recreation Club, Grosse Isle, MB. Internment in the Grassmere United Cemetery will be done later. In holding to Dad’s style, the service will be friends, family, co-workers those that knew him, sitting around chatting away enjoying each other’s company, have a cup of tea or coffee, sandwiches & dainties. His way, like he loved to say no bells, no whistles.

1925-2024

Peacefully on October 27, 2024 at 99 years of age, Frank passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB.

Frank was predeceased by his wife Rose, brothers Metro, John, Art, Bill, Harry, Nick, Tom, and Walter, and sisters Wanda and Anna.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by daughter Christine, son Donald (Colleen), grandchildren Daniel (Teresa), Alanna (Shawn) Rena, and Chad as well as great-grandchildren Matthew, Jordan, Ava, and Drew.  He will also be greatly missed by all his nieces, nephews, and numerous friends he had made over the years.

A huge thank-you goes out to the nurses at Gimli Hospital for their compassion and wonderful care Frank received during his stay.

In following with Frank’s wishes, no memorial service will be held and a celebration of his life will be planned for the spring.  Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in his name to a local animal rescue of your choice.

With great sadness we mourn the loss of our Mom, Irene Mary Emms (nee Lecocq). She stubbornly battled with cancer and chemo nearly took her life early this spring. After the decision to stop treatment she bounced back and gave so many wonderful memories to herself, family and friends.

Sadly on Oct. 23, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, cancer still won….. Eff cancer!

At the age of 71 Mom had many survivors, her brother David (Wanda), son Todd grandkids Harley, Cheyenne and Brooklyn, son Jarett (Carmen), grandkids James, Amber and Brandon, son Jeff (Amy), grandkids Jeffrey and Rowan, son Ross (Jodi), grandkids Jayden, Isaac, Brooklyn, Joseph, Chloe and Andrew, daughter Melissa, grandkids Ellie and Ezra, two great grandchildren as well as many other family and friends.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Albert and Gladys, her brother Stan and his wife Gail and her sister Carole.

With her youth in Treherne, and as Uncle Dave tried to explain “some field yard nearby” (likely uphill both ways) then on to Winnipeg and if you knew her just a couple stops through the years with the longest being in Inwood.

Honouring Mom’s request in lieu of a service we will have a come and go BBQ celebrating her life on Saturday November 16, 2024 from 12-5 at the CE building located beside the Teulon United Church at 80 3^rd Ave SE in Teulon, MB.

Burial will take place at a later date at the Haywood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her memory to Colon Cancer Research.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Teulon Hospital that took great care of our Mom throughout the time she was in their care. A special thank you goes out to her friends Brandie and Lynn, as well as so many others, for the love and support they offered her.

August 9^th, 1972- October 19^th, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kathy. She will be infinitely missed by her loving and devoted husband Geoff and her children, Jefferson (Sarah) and Miranda. Also, with broken hearts are her parents Tom and Aletha and her supportive sister Tracy (Derek). She was predeceased by her grandparents Jim and Sadie Henry, Walter and Mary Redden as well as father-in-law Modiste Holod. Kathy leaves to mourn her mother-in-law Shirley, aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends who have shown their love and support over these last months.

Kathy had the special gift of bringing out the best in others, by listening, counseling and cheering. Through her selfless and giving ways, she was rewarded to see her children become respectful, kind adults who have excelled in their chosen careers as a pilot and teacher. Watching Jefferson thrive in karate and air cadets and Miranda at softball and singing brought her much happiness. Her greatest joys in life truly were her children and husband Geoff.

Kathy grew up in Stony Mountain, where she enjoyed farm life, small community living, and sports. She was a beautiful figure skater, winning competitions, and was a member of the Stonewall Precision Skating Team that competed and won the Manitoba Provincial Championships. She was a gifted runner who excelled in cross-country and long-distance track during high school. Her love for running motivated her over the years and she achieved her lifelong goal of completing a half marathon in 2022. She had also taken up curling, golfing, and cross-country skiing, enjoying these activities with good friends.

She graduated from Stonewall Collegiate in 1990 and then received her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. Her career in the banking and investment industries lead to colleagues becoming true friends. Kathy was passionate about helping young families with their finances. She found joy in creating financial plans that transformed their lives for the better. Friends and family often sought her advice on investments, and she was always so eager to help.

Kathy and Geoff made their home in Grosse Isle raising their children and spending time entertaining family and close friends. Many of these friends were a part of their lives from as far back as high school. The family enjoyed multiple trips throughout Canada, USA, Cuba and Mexico.

In 2023, Kathy and Geoff took a trip to Italy where they created memories of each other, red wine, pasta and pizza, making it the trip of their lifetime. In July of this year Kathy and the family ventured on a cherished trip to Newfoundland. They experienced all that Newfoundland had to offer and most importantly to Kathy, watching whales together as a family.

“Mom, you loved us fiercely and made sure we always knew it. We will continue to strive to use all you taught us to make you proud. You will be forever loved, always missed, fondly remembered, and never forgotten.”

“Kath, no words can describe how empty I am feeling without you here. That sparkle in your brown eyes and your radiating smile lit up my life. I don’t know what my future holds my love, but I do know the time I’ve spent with you has been worth every second. Always know that my heart holds you now that my arms can’t. I love you.”

May 23, 1941 – October 19, 2024

Carol is survived by her husband Dan, three sons, Greg (Lynn), Dave (Diane), Corey (Jennifer), and grandchildren Bryan (Breanne), Brady (Haley), Landon (Karissa), Regan, Matt, Emma, Eli and great grandchildren Brooke, Huxton and Harlowe. She is also survived by her sister Donna and brother George (Barb), sisters-in-law Betty-Ann Lillies, Helen Harris, and brother-in-law Ben (Nicole) as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Ted and Jim, sister Wilda, nephews Scott, Gordie and niece Darlene. Carol lost her Mom (Emma) when she was just 13 years old and was left with her younger brother George to be raised by their father (Charlie). This fostered a special bond with George that lasted her lifetime.

Carol was born May 23, 1941 and was raised on the Harris family farm just west of Grosse Isle. Growing up she attended the Red Brick School in Grosse Isle and made many lifelong friends. After high school she enrolled in the Grace Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1961. Carol met Dan and dated for five years before being married on September 2^nd, 1961 a day after she graduated from the Grace. After their marriage Dan and Carol lived in Winnipeg for 5 years before building a house in Grosse Isle. They called Grosse Isle home until 1975 when they built their new house on the farm just West of the town.

Nursing was more than a job to Carol, it really was a passion and she was one of the very best. In 1975, after nursing in Winnipeg, she accepted a position at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall as the co-head nurse. She retired from that position in August 2000. She continued to work and volunteer in the community whenever a nurse was needed during her retirement. She formed many friendships with her nursing classmates and co-workers that lasted a lifetime.

Carol loved all sports – she especially enjoyed watching her sons play hockey in winter and baseball in the summer. She very rarely missed attending when her grandchildren had a game and even got to see her great grandchildren start into sports. She very much enjoyed watching sports on TV with favorites being curling and hockey (Jets) in the winter and golf, baseball and football (Bombers) in spring, summer and fall. Her favorite sport personality was Jennifer Jones.  She made a trip to the Brier in March this past year with a few good friends.

Carol loved the family farm and tending to the yard and garden. Family was her number one priority and she always looked forward to family dinners – she was a terrific cook. Grant’s Lake was a special place to her and she was able to tour it by canoe at age 81. Some other places she loved:  The Grosse Isle skating rink and the skating parties when she was a kid. Attree Field was a place she enjoyed countless hours watching baseball. She volunteered many hours at the Grosse Isle Community Centre and took pride in being part of the community.

Dan and Carol enjoyed numerous trips throughout the years – many centered around watching grandkids play sports. They also had plenty of fishing trips with their gang of close friends. There were multiple circles of friends and these friendships were really special to her. They supported each other through difficult times but enjoyed so many good times together – they never missed a birthday, anniversary or other special event. An annual tradition was the yearly Grey Cup Party.

A donation in Carol’s memory can be made to the Grosse Isle Heritage Site, Keira’s Krusade, or The Salvation Army.

Our family would like to thank the staff of the Stonewall Hospital for the care they provided as well as all the friends (too numerous to list) and family for their support during her illness. Carol wanted to say a special thank you to her sister Donna and brother George for their support throughout the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Grosse Isle Community Hall, Grosse Isle, Manitoba. There will be an opportunity to share a story or memory if you wish.

The more you look the more you’ll find, but life is good and friends are kind – for only what we give away enriches us from day to day.
