Brenda Jean Peters

Brenda Jean Peters

Passed on June 29, 2022

1953-2022     Peacefully on June 29, 2022 Brenda Peters passed away at the age of 69. Brenda was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 9, 1953 to the late Donald and Ioleen McPherson. She will be lovingly missed by her daughters Jo-Anne (Lyle), Donna (Rob), son Darryl (Erin), her precious grandbabies Dylan, Gavin, Blake, Greysen, Elliott, Addisyn, Nolan and niece Pam (Duane). Mom will also be sadly missed by her close group of neighbours, longtime friend Rita Morton, and extended family and friends in the community. Mom was predeceased by her parents and our dad, David Peters.

Mom grew up in Winnipeg with her 3 siblings in the Brooklands neighbourhood. She was an avid basketball player even at 5 foot 1 inches tall. Mom moved to Gretna where she met our dad and started our family. She loved being a stay at home mom to us 3 kids and made sure we had the best childhood spent camping in St. Malo, going to dad’s baseball tournaments and spending a lot of time with our huge extended family.

We moved from Gretna to Melita in 1987 and six years later moved to Stonewall in 1993. Mom started working as an interpreter at Quarry Park then continued her career with Canada Post for over 30 years. Mom was so well liked and known for working at the post office and everywhere she went, someone knew her and stopped to say hello. After retiring in November 2020, when she would run into people from Stonewall, they demanded she come out of retirement and go back to work.

She loved to travel and enjoyed her trips to Wisconsin Dells, Niagara Falls, the Cayman Islands, numerous trips to Puerto Vallarta and visiting the cottage in Lester Beach. Mom/Grandma loved watching us kids and her grandkids at their various sporting activities and even a trip to Regina for a hockey weekend. Mom was always game to tag along for a planned or last minute shopping trip with us kids or with Rita. She loved watching a good Manitoba lightning display, baking, doing puzzles, watching movies and true crime tv shows, having coffee and visits with her neighbours. Mom ramped up her baking right after she retired and filled our freezers with goodies to last for months. We loved all the things that came from Brenda’s Bakery.

Mom was always there to listen and laugh with us. She was witty, kind, gentle, funny, loving and generous, and this was all felt by those close to her.

We love you and are going to miss you so much Mom! Mom, you held us close when times were tough Been by our sides, when life got rough Forever constant, always there Sometimes firm, but always fair You are our rock, our inspiration Gave our life it’s strong foundation Ever loving, patient, kind And listen with an open mind You mean the world for all you do We love you mom, for being you.

A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm at the Stonewall Quarry Park Interpretive Centre (166 Main Street).

In lieu of flowers, or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your parents, child, grandchildren, grandparents, friend, or walk in the park for a moment, an hour or a day. Time waits for no one.

Jo-Anne, Donna and Darryl, we will always remember the friendships and good times shared with your family during your years in Melita! Hours spent at the curling rink watching those crazy men curl, coffee times at your house, our kids sharing school activities, ball teams, etc. We bought our first camper from your family, and yes, your mom loved to bake. I still use her doughnut recipe with the chocolate icing! A loving person and good friend to all! George and Gloria Vanbeselaere
