Donald James Young

Donald James Young

Passed on April 20, 2024

Born May 29, 1945 at Morden, MB –  Died April 20, 2024 at Gimli, MB

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald James Young.

Don is survived by his best friend, loving wife Roberta (Bert), his daughters Lisa Pawluk, Shelley (Raymond) Stewart; grandchildren Justin, Cody, Jessie Rae, Carson (Sarah), Erin (Jordan), Cassidy (Brad), Bailey (Nathan) and five great grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by sisters Joan (Ron) Johnson and Barb (Ken) Zacharias, brother Gerry (Dawn) and their families; sisters-in-law Elaine, Debbie, Cheryl (Doug) and Diana (Patrick) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Lorne and Gladys Young.

Don loved spending time with family, taking the grandkids for a ride in the golf cart, fishing trips with Barb and Ken and Joan and Ron and golfing with his wife. The bond he had with his daughters was so special. They knew they could count on him to be there for them with sound fatherly advice, a shoulder to lean on or just a hand to hold.

Don had a successful career in the auto industry, beginning and ending with the Birchwood Automotive Group where he made many lasting friendships. In 2010, Don chose to retire from Birchwood and in the years since, he and Bert spent the winters in Queen Valley, Arizona. They made so many friends there and the days were spent golfing, playing cards and socializing.

Don loved hosting friends and family with Bert, be it in Arizona or at their home in Sandy Hook. He often told anyone and everyone… “I have a wonderful life!”.

A loving husband, a wonderful father, a super special Grandpa and a great friend. Don was all of these. He loved and was well-loved and will be forever missed by all.

Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to the United Way of Winnipeg or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, if so desired.

Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 3 at 2:00PM Stonewall Legion, Stonewall, MB

Bert we are so sorry for your loss. Don was a special man who loved you dearly. He was always there for all of us if needed. You were blessed. I know you will always remember the good times (golfing with fellow Canadians in tournaments that led to loosing but loving those salty dogs) and you will laugh and say, right! . Our hearts and prays are with you. He truly will be missed and never forgotten, our friend always and forever. ❤️ 💐

Even though we did not know Don for very long. My husband and I could tell he was such a quality man. We will miss seeing him next year as we were interested in getting to know Don better. Our condolences go out to you Bert and your family.

It seems like a lifetime ago, but the lessons that I learned working for Don 20 plus years ago are ones I have carried with me and will continue to carry. I’m so glad I got to see your smiling (and so tanned!) faces in our chance meeting at the Phoenix airport this past spring. My thoughts are with your family, rest well Don.

Extending my deepest love and sympathies to all of you as I know what an awesome man he was. Although I only had the pleasure of his acquaintance on a few occasions I instinctively felt his generous soul and kind heart. May your beautiful memories carry you until the time you can set aside your tears for happier ones and smile about all your fun times together. With love Cindy and Rob
