Donna Webb

Donna Webb

Passed on April 7, 2020

Donna slipped away peacefully on April 7, 2020 at the age of 83 after several years of declining health. She had a happy upbringing as the oldest child of Bruce and Ruby Hogg, growing up on the family farm south of Warren with her two brothers. After attending the Manitoba Normal School, Donna began teaching at age 19, spending two years at Grosse Isle and one year at Britannia School in St. James. She married Ernie Webb of Stonewall in 1957 and became a full-time mother for several years before returning to teaching as a substitute in Stonewall. Later she completed a university degree and became a family support worker for Manitoba Community Services, where she spent 15 satisfying years assisting families with special needs children. Donna was a talented amateur musician, playing piano and trombone and singing in choirs. She loved nature, kept a large garden and each year canned hundreds of quarts of vegetables and saskatoons. She was a generous supporter of many environmental groups and medical charities and sponsored foster children in Africa and Central America. During their 43-year marriage, Donna and Ernie enjoyed Elder Hostel programs in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. After Ernie’s death, Donna continued to travel to places as diverse as Alaska, Labrador and Iceland. She leaves to mourn her children Bruce (Nicole Armstrong), Allan (Marion Zerrenthin), David (Massimo Lanaro) and Barbara Smith, her brothers Bruce (Pat), Glenn (Margaret), grandchildren Michael Poloski and Carrie Smith, great-grandson Tripp Poloski, sisters-in-law Marlene Taylor (Jim) and Gwen Webb, many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as the families with whom she worked over the years. We will miss her generous supportive nature and her cheerful common sense approach to life. The family would like to thank Dr. Graham and especially the sensitive and compassionate staff at Rosewood Lodge who cared for our mother so well in her last year. At Donna’s request, she has been cremated and there will be a small family gathering to remember her life well lived.
