Douglas Stewart Dicks aged 79 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 17, 2019. Doug is survived by his wife Merle of 56 years, children Kim, Vincent (Tammy), Susan (Jim) Grand Children Jessica (Chris), Kyle, Justin (Ria), Nicole (Brett), Chelsey (Calvin), Sierra (Nick), Mitchel, Julie, Great Grand children Max and Adam. Doug was born in Teulon, predeceased by his parents Florence and Stewart Dicks and sister Joan (Owen), nephew Raymond. Growing up Doug was a straight A student throughout school and continued with this mindset throughout his lifetime succeeding in all. Doug had a strong work ethic and excelled throughout his career with multiple well deserved promotions in Management of Hotels, Hudson’s Bay Wholesale and Pratt’s. Doug was a hard working man who continued to work in his retirement driving school bus and working at Adesa. He enjoyed all the children and often went out of his way to give special care to the kids on his bus. During his youth and adult life a well respected and well known curler throughout the Interlake in Manitoba. He was also an avid hunter of big game, birds and fishing which he did with his wife, son, daughters, son in law, and grand children. Doug and his wife have had many friends across Canada whom they continued long friendships with for many years. Doug enjoyed socializing and had a love of dancing with his wife, children and grand children while enjoying a drink or two, often while listening to Elvis. Dad mostly enjoyed a game of crib or many other games with Mom and family. Doug was a character all of his own, with charm, intelligence and whit, anyone having had the pleasure of meeting Dad would not soon forget him, he will be greatly missed. Doug’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Stonewall Hospital for their compassion and kindness. Per Doug’s wishes a private family interment will be held at a later date.
