Ed de Laroque

Ed de Laroque

Passed on November 25, 2022

It is with the most profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Husband and Legend, Ed de Laroque.

Ed was born September 28, 1970 to Charlie and Lynda de Laroque and was raised just outside of Argyle, Manitoba. Ed played hockey in his younger years into his 20’s and football in his teenage years. He married Kim Petrie in 1995 and together they built a life and raised 4 amazing kids.

Ed was the heart and soul of Warren Tire. He worked for his parents until 2006, when he and Kim bought the business and took the reins. There wasn’t anything Ed couldn’t do or figure out. Even in most recent times when staffing was short and times were getting tough, he did not quit, he did not give up. Ed was the hardest working man we will ever know.

Ed was a born coach, mentor and leader. Once his children started playing sports, he was all in. He coached hockey, football and baseball, and many of his teams won countless championships. He was his kid’s biggest fan, cheering them on in all their activities from motocross to Air Cadets, hockey, football, baseball and Irish Dance. Ed loved his kids so much, and was so proud of them.

When he wasn’t coaching, he was hunting or fishing. Ed gave his children the gift of his knowledge and love of the outdoors. Many July long weekends were spent hauling in pickerel at Grand Rapids or on the Red reeling in the cats. He taught all four of them how to hunt and fish, and was so proud when they were successful.

Ed loved to travel. Besides many hunting and fishing trips, Ed loved to travel to Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican, the West Coast, day trips throughout Manitoba, trips to US for football games or a simple trip on the side by side to Inwood for some lunch.

Ed loved his family and friends very deeply. Ed’s friends meant the world to him. While he might not have been a man of words, you always knew he loved you through his actions. Ed was very thoughtful, and had a soft side that he only showed to the people closest to him.

He will be terribly missed by his wife Kim, his children Dylan (Rachel), Austin, Ciarra and Brady, his parents Charlie and Lynda de Laroque, his brother and sister and their families, his nephews, Kim’s family and his nieces, and of course all the friends he loved.

Honourary Pallbearers are Scott Fisher, Mike Tataryn, Jamie Puffalt, Jamie Gray, Stan Grassinger, Donnie de Laroque, Ray Blowers and Corkie Allarie.

A service will be held Monday, December 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stonewall Legion, 459 Main Street, Stonewall Manitoba. A come and go reception until 4 p.m. will follow, for those who don’t make it in to the service.

We would like to thank Colleen and Tyson Langrell, the EMT’s, Headingly RCMP, and the nurses and doctor at Stonewall Hospital for everything they did for us that morning.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, for a memorial youth hunt in Ed’s name.

Our promise to you Ed, we will fight, we will survive, we will live life in your honour, we won’t quit, we won’t give up, and you will always be with us.

“Hands of steel and a heart made of gold”

So sorry for your loss Kim I had the opportunity of working with Carlie and Linda when they had their tire shop across the street. Ed was a young fella at that time and a great kid. He did well. May his soul rest in heaven.

My parents and I extend our deepest condolences to the de Laroque family. My dad has known Ed and his parents for about 30 years through Warren Tire. Ed was a dedicated businessman who never wavered from serving his customers to the best of his ability. There have been many times over the years where Ed would source difficult to find agricultural tires, often finding them somewhere across the country. We were always very appreciative of the extra time and effort Ed placed into sourcing the tires for us.

So very sorry to hear of his passing. Way too sudden and way too early. I haven't seen him for many years but have many fond memories of him from so long ago. Hands of steel is pretty bang on. I would get a kick out of him trying to problem solve and make the square peg fit in the round hole and getting frustrated. And when he was done it fit like it was meant to be because he did whatever he had to to make it work and it was done right and done well. In high school he taught me how to fight in hockey. I didn't play hockey back then. :) Also played slopitch with us one year and he, Kim, and Shaker got into an accident on the way to our final in provincials. They didn't have to come but came to support us anyways even if they were too sore to play. So sorry for the immense hole his passing leaves and cherish the many memories you have and that other people will share with you.

Thinking of all of your family in this difficult time. I’ll not forget the kindness and joy you and Ed always showed toward our school family Kim. And to Dylan, Austin, Ciarra and Brady, your dad instilled so many amazing and strong qualities in you, and I’m grateful to have been able to watch you become the young people your Dad was so proud of.

Kim & kids, Charlie and Linda and family. I am so very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Always one of my favourite people to do business with, but even more, one of my favourite people to simply pass the time and chat with. Ed's laugh, smile and sense of humour were infectious and will stay with me forever. The world is now a little less colourful.
