Emma Lydia Chyzy

Emma Lydia Chyzy

Passed on January 19, 2024

December 27, 1937 – January 19, 2024     It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Emma Chyzy, a cherished member of the community, formerly of Arborg, MB, and residing in Winnipeg. Emma departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg.

Emma is survived by her devoted husband Nick, sons Denis and Dean, and her beloved granddaughter Blaire. She is also remembered fondly by numerous family members in Canada and the Philippines. Emma was the last of her remaining siblings.

Born in the Philippines, Emma arrived in Arborg in 1968 armed with her nursing diploma, embarking on a career that spanned Arborg Hospital, Gimli Hospital, and Betel Home in Gimli. In 1972, she married the love of her life, Nick Chyzy, and together they raised their family in Arborg.

Emma was known for her outgoing personality and the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. A long-time parishioner at St. Philips R.C. Church in Arborg, she actively participated in the choir during weekly masses. Emma found joy in various hobbies, including tending to her flower beds, gardening, and her trips to the Philippines and her annual travels to Las Vegas, where she enjoyed the winter casinos with Nick. She maintained close connections with former classmates, visiting them in Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago, or anywhere in North America. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her cherished granddaughter Blaire.

She lived a long and beautiful life, filled with adventures and warmth, and her absence will be deeply felt.

A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, January 31, at St. Philips Roman Catholic Church in Arborg, with interment following in St. Philips R.C. Cemetery. Pallbearers were Anthony Chyzy, Lorne Jr. Harasym, Gordon Danard, Brad Sumka, Miles Gislason, and Flavian Balagus.

Emma will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared with everyone she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
