Harold Oughton

Passed on July 15, 2020

April 19, 1946 – July 15, 2020          Summing up our Dad in such a small space is impossible, but for those of you that knew him you can fill in the blanks. Surrounded by his four children and two grandchildren, our Dad rode off into the sunset on the evening of July 15th…met with open arms from Auntie Nellie and happy hour with Clinton (Inman) and Bill (Good). You can guarantee those birds will be flying with more than one wing. Dad was born on April 19, 1946 and the letter attached should have read, ‘Fasten your seatbelts”. He was a jack of all trades and master of most of them as well. From business owner to hockey coach, school bus driver to prankster, he could walk into a room and it would light up with his sharp (sometimes inappropriate) wit and charm. God forbid you were one of the gullible ones who looked for that gold watch at the bottom of the pool… you surely ended up going for an unscheduled swim, shoes and all. As children, we truly never “wanted” for anything and Dad was always in our corner. Whether it was baseball, 4H, Judo, volleyball, swimming or his greatest loves…hockey and horses, Dad was always there cheering us on either from the stands or as a coach. He loved to cook and entertain family and friends and the more was always merrier. Often he’d call the local butcher to open up after hours so he could buy steaks to grill for everyone after a slo-pitch tournament. We’d also be remiss if we didn’t mention all of the Christmases and occasions he would get the team of horses ready – complete with a sleigh and hay bales for moonlit sleighrides with friends and family. Dad never stopped working (and we stole his joke “I haven’t sat down yet today”) – there was always a project on the go and a deal to be made and you can rest assured that hasn’t changed since his arrival up there. In addition to Dad’s family and long list of true friends, his loss will leave a vast void in the hearts of his children, Lana Oughton (Jerry Castellano), Darren Oughton (Tricia), Laurie Oughton (Rob Schumann) and Dale Oughton; grandchildren, Fraser McCullough (Chantel), Cara McCullough (Bryce), Thomas and Nikolai Oughton and the Mother of his four kids, Lorraine Oughton. As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service with his children will be held at a later date. Dad, we miss you beyond belief already – thank you for all of the precious memories that will live on forever.
