Obituary

March 12, 1963 – April 12, 2019,  Ian passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side. Ian is survived by his loving partner Patricia and her son Harlan, his mother Margaret, brother Jamie, and sister Peggy (Randy), many aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved pet cat Skufty. He is predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Munroe (2009), his grandparents Alda (nee Stratton) and Robert Munroe, and David and Setta Eggertson, his aunts, Donna Peterson and Marjorie Buckinger. Ian grew up on the family farm near Warren Manitoba. He attended grade school in Warren and later graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Diploma in Agriculture. He worked as a crop insurance inspector, a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba – where he assisted Ron Larson. He has also worked alongside his brother and father on the family mixed farm. In the last 25 years, Ian has worked for Safeway and Sobeys. To date, he had been working as a farm inspector for Organic Producers Manitoba. Recently, he had been preparing for the auction sale site on his acreage. Ian loved books and was an avid reader, past hunter, golfer, and a competitive curler. He loved fishing in the summer, and winter ice fishing with his friend John Lamport. He loved nature and enjoyed many evenings sitting in his yard with the bonfire, Pat by his side, gazing at the stars and observing the planes as they flew over. He enjoyed target shooting with friends and would carefully show his cousins children how to use a gun safely. He had an ability to sketch, particularly nature and animal photos. He had planned to write a book on his life and experiences. Funeral service and the celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, April 18 at 10:30 am, at the Warren United Church, Warren, MB. Interment will follow at the Warren cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ian’s memory may be sent to The Fort Whyte Centre, 204-989-8355 – for environmental education and animal rehabilitation, or to a charity of your choice.
