Passed on
May 6, 1939- Feb. 21, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of James Alfred Appleyard on February 21, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85. James was born on May 6th, 1939 at the family farm in the RM of Rockwood. He attended Grosse Isle School and then lived his adult life in Winnipeg. James worked in the finance department for the Manitoba Government, at the Legislature building, for many years until his retirement. After retirement, James continued to work at numerous odd jobs, including bartending at the Granite Curling Club, condo security, and driving seniors to appointments and errands.
James was a man of many talents. You could ask him to play any song on the piano and he would play it, even though the song sounded the same as every other song he played. He also played drums for years. James would often arrive for a visit with a freshly baked pie, especially in prime saskatoon season, and still picked fresh saskatoons this past summer. He was a collector of many things, especially tea pots, and many other treasures that he found while searching garage sales for a deal.
James is survived by is brother Douglas (Beverly), sister in-law Janice, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Predeceasing James were his parents, Robert and Amy (Lindley), his siblings, Ruth (Mel), Kenneth (Viola), Bob (Doreen), Isabel (George), and Ron.
As per James request, cremation has taken place. A date for a gathering and interment, at Grassmere Cemetery, will be announced at a later date.
