It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Jan on August 20^th, 2026 at the age of 69 at the Health Sciences Centre after a brief health complication.

Jan was predeceased by her loving parents Ray and Elza Taplin and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins that all played significant roles in her life.

She is survived by her sisters Sandy Hallam (Stuart) and Judy Fordham (Murray); nieces Lynn Flinta (Lyle), Melanie MacCarthy (Craig), Pamela Galatiuk (Danny), Sara Tory (Derri) and nephew David Hallam; great nieces and nephews Colby, Morgan, Hayden, Kierston, Lathen, Lochlan, and Tannum; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Jan was born the eldest of three girls on March 25, 1957 in Stonewall, Manitoba and spent her first 6 years in Argyle before moving to the family farm north of Balmoral, Manitoba.

She loved travelling with her dad on the transfer truck playing with Lady the dog and had an early love for horses.

Jan attended elementary school in Balmoral and completed highschool in Stonewall. After graduation she pursued a career with Great West Life starting out in Winnipeg and later relocating to Edmonton for a short number of years. Jan’s excitement about becoming an aunty brought her back to Winnipeg where she would continue her career with Ceridian until her retirement in 2024.

Some of the highlights throughout Jans life was the purchase of a light team of black horses, Reba and Fury, along with a buggy that her and her dad took to parades and weddings. Al McMurray and Ev Carlson were often partners with her in those ventures.

She enjoyed a trip to Ottawa, Hawaii, Yellowknife, Grand Prairie and numerous day trips to Gimli, Lily Festivals and family visits throughout the province. Jan and her mom had an undeniable bond that would last throughout her adult life. The two of them weren’t often seen without the other and their laughter could be heard wherever their travels took them.

Jan maintained many of her hometown relationships and cultivated her own within her church, work and apartment block communities. After Jan’s passing, many of these folks reached out with fond memories of her volunteer efforts, kind gestures and festive activities and the immense pride she held for her family.

Her biggest joy in life was undoubtedly her nieces and nephew and if that wasn’t enough, her love grew even stronger as her great nieces and nephews were born. She spent countless hours following their passions whether it was a hockey rink, baseball diamond, volleyball court or rodeo arena.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18^th, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Parish in Winnipeg, MB (252 Dubuc Street) with an extended family interment to follow in Stonewall.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Jan may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

A special thank you to the physicians and nurses of the high observation patient care unit at HSC for their compassionate care.
