Joan Shirley Porcher

Joan Shirley Porcher

Passed on June 18, 2019

Joan Shirley Porcher (nee Assels) passed away peacefully at her home in Stonewall with family by her side on June 18, 2019. Joan was born July 3, 1954 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married Randy, the love of her life, on August 3, 1973. She was a committed loving wife and mother. Together she and Randy raised four daughters and enjoyed 5 grandchildren. Joan was dedicated in her faith and always sought to put others first. She touched many lives in her involvement in church ministries throughout the years. Joan not only taught about God’s great love, but also displayed it in every way. She was very strong and determined and whatever she put her mind to she would accomplish. It was always important for Joan and Randy to have an open home and they welcomed many people into their family over the years. In the last 12 years Joan has been heavily involved with the Kenyan orphanage Bethel Rays of Hope. Joan had the opportunity to visit Kenya over the years and saw firsthand the need and was instrumental in the orphanage moving forward. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ which gave her strength throughout her life. Her secure hope in Jesus brought her much peace at the end. She is survived by her loving husband Randy Porcher, her four daughters and their husbands, Nicole (Chris), Robyn (Andrew), Danielle (Nick), Brittany (Brad), five grandchildren, her mother, Evelyn York, her four siblings and spouses, Jim, Arlene, Keith, and Sue. Joan was preceded by her father Victor Assels. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 22 at 2:00 at New Life Church in Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Rays of Hope.

Joan was a wonderful, godly lady. It showed in everything she did. I had the immense pleasure of working for Randy, and in doing so, I came in contact with Joan quite frequently, in and outside of church. Joan was always doing something to help a cause or a person. She will be greatly missed by our family, and every one who knew her. Joan is in heaven now, right where she belongs :D My thoughts and prayers are with the Porchers.

Very sorry to hear that Joan has passed away. What a joy for her to be able to see her Savior. I know she has heard Him say well done!! She provided guidance to me as a young girl and influenced me in my faith in Christ. She was always smiling and always greeted me when we would visit Stonewall. I pray for you all that you will be comforted by our dear Savior!! Love you all!
