Katherine Marie Holod (nee Henry)
Obituary
Passed on
August 9th, 1972- October 19th, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kathy. She will be infinitely missed by her loving and devoted husband Geoff and her children, Jefferson (Sarah) and Miranda. Also, with broken hearts are her parents Tom and Aletha and her supportive sister Tracy (Derek). She was predeceased by her grandparents Jim and Sadie Henry, Walter and Mary Redden as well as father-in-law Modiste Holod. Kathy leaves to mourn her mother-in-law Shirley, aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends who have shown their love and support over these last months.
Kathy had the special gift of bringing out the best in others, by listening, counseling and cheering. Through her selfless and giving ways, she was rewarded to see her children become respectful, kind adults who have excelled in their chosen careers as a pilot and teacher. Watching Jefferson thrive in karate and air cadets and Miranda at softball and singing brought her much happiness. Her greatest joys in life truly were her children and husband Geoff.
Kathy grew up in Stony Mountain, where she enjoyed farm life, small community living, and sports. She was a beautiful figure skater, winning competitions, and was a member of the Stonewall Precision Skating Team that competed and won the Manitoba Provincial Championships. She was a gifted runner who excelled in cross-country and long-distance track during high school. Her love for running motivated her over the years and she achieved her lifelong goal of completing a half marathon in 2022. She had also taken up curling, golfing, and cross-country skiing, enjoying these activities with good friends.
She graduated from Stonewall Collegiate in 1990 and then received her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. Her career in the banking and investment industries lead to colleagues becoming true friends. Kathy was passionate about helping young families with their finances. She found joy in creating financial plans that transformed their lives for the better. Friends and family often sought her advice on investments, and she was always so eager to help.
Kathy and Geoff made their home in Grosse Isle raising their children and spending time entertaining family and close friends. Many of these friends were a part of their lives from as far back as high school. The family enjoyed multiple trips throughout Canada, USA, Cuba and Mexico.
In 2023, Kathy and Geoff took a trip to Italy where they created memories of each other, red wine, pasta and pizza, making it the trip of their lifetime. In July of this year Kathy and the family ventured on a cherished trip to Newfoundland. They experienced all that Newfoundland had to offer and most importantly to Kathy, watching whales together as a family.
“Mom, you loved us fiercely and made sure we always knew it. We will continue to strive to use all you taught us to make you proud. You will be forever loved, always missed, fondly remembered, and never forgotten.”
“Kath, no words can describe how empty I am feeling without you here. That sparkle in your brown eyes and your radiating smile lit up my life. I don’t know what my future holds my love, but I do know the time I’ve spent with you has been worth every second. Always know that my heart holds you now that my arms can’t. I love you.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
A private family service has been held. Please join the family for a come and go Celebration of Life at the Stonewall Interpretive Center Saturday, November 2nd between 2:30-4:30pm.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Kathy's passing. I had the privilege of working with her a 7 years ago, and she was truly an exceptional person. Her beautiful smile, calm demeanor, and kind nature left a lasting impression on me. Kathy had way of creating a peaceful atmosphere with her presence. Our careers eventually took us in different directions, I had the opportunity to see her again 2 years ago, and she greeted me with the same warmth, love and that beautiful smile. She spoke about enjoying her new role. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. May Kathy’s soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to those she touched.

Geoff, Jefferson, and Miranda I’m so saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. I loved teaching Jeff and Miranda because I got to see Kathy on a regular basis. She was always smiling, always had time to chat, and always had such a positive attitude. The world has really lost one of the special ones, but she will live on in the three of you. Sending love & strength to you all. 🩷

A sad time for all! The dearest, sweetest woman has moved on to a place of peace and painless ness. I can’t imagine your grief, but Geoff, Jefferson and Miranda, she was a shining star of life! Her example of selfless love will live on in all of you! Tom and Aletha, the pain of losing a child should never happen, but take comfort in knowing you were THE best parents anyone could have. Kathy is at peace, and I pray all of Katy’s family, can be filled with moments of peace as you learn, from Kathy, how to navigate the impossible. 💔

So So Soo sad to read this ! Although Kathy was a grade older than me, she & I were friends in our Stony Mountain School days and then in our SCI days. As it often happens, We finished high school & went separate ways. Although I haven’t seen Kathy in many many years, ( sad how that happens all too often!) I remember her to always be smiling . I remember her being very active in student council & I remember her encouraging me to try new things. The last time I saw Kathy was a probably good 30 years ago. ( how could it be that long ago? But judging by my children’s ages, it had to have been ..) I was at a social & ran into her. Line dancing was a new thing ( at least to me it was) and I was sitting watching others do it . She came over to my table & told me this was easy & she would show me how to do it. With a smile, She wouldn’t take “no “ for an answer & dragged me up to the dance floor . That night she taught me how to Boot Scoot & Boogie. I often think of her fondly every time I hear that song . But I’m sure from now on, I will always think of her when that song comes on. Far too young Rest in Peace Kathy. Sadly I am unable to attend the Celebration of Life on Saturday, but I will be thinking of her . My condolences to Tracy , and the rest of Kathy’s family .
