December 18, 1913 – September 3, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stella Monasterski. Stella passed away peacefully at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon, MB on September 3, 2018 at the age of 104, with her daughter Kathy at her side. Stella will be sadly missed by her daughter Kathy Monaster, son Randy Monaster, granddaughter Alanna, great niece Winona and many close friends and relatives. Stella was predeceased by her first husband Harry Maskow, her second husband Steve Monasterski of 47 years, brother John Slavuta (wife Alice); and brother Donald Slavuta (wife Helen) along with many other family members. Stella was born on December 18, 1913 in Ladywood, MB to Anna and Kuzma Slavuta. The family moved to Fisher Branch and at the age of 16, Stella moved to Inwood and went to work at the Inwood Hotel cleaning and cooking. After her first husband’s accidental death, she stayed on the farm and later married Steve Monasterski and continued farming. Upon selling the farm, Steve and Stella moved to Inwood. They boarded school teachers from the Union Prairie School and they all enjoyed Stella’s delicious home cooked meals. Stella worked for 20 years at Olsen’s grocery store in Inwood. After Steve passed away, Stella continued to live in her own home in Inwood until 2015, at which time she moved into Goodwin Lodge in Teulon. Stella treasured her outings and time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Stella was a wonderful cook and baker, with all her fancy slices, buns, etc. No one ever left her home hungry. Stella liked to sew her own clothing and enjoyed curling until the age of 90. She also had a wonderful green thumb. Stella’s garden and flower beds would put many parks to shame. She enjoyed making beautiful flower arrangements and paper tole pictures. No words can describe what a wonderful, honest, hardworking and special lady Stella was. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Komarno Holy Trinity Parish in Komarno, MB. Father Peter Chorney will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Zbruch Cemetery. A luncheon will be held after at the Komarno Community Hall. Pallbearers will be Donald and Johnny Sluvato, Allen and Mathew Hamaberg, Leonard Lindley, and Dave Gates. Honorary Pallbearers Jake Star and Fred West. We wish to thank all the staff at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital and Goodwin Lodge Personal Care Home for the wonderful care Stella received. Special thank you to Meagan for painting Stella’s nails and brightening her days.
