Wesley Orland McGillvray
Obituary
Passed on
With heavy hearts we are sad to announce that Wesley Orland McGillvray passed away peacefully on 12 July 2024 in Teulon, Manitoba. He was 91 years old.
Mourning the loss of their father, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa are Karen (Ross Sheldon), Jim (Holly Beasse), Kelli (Phil Palmer) and Kristi (Mark Painter), grandchildren; Jacky (Cody Appleyard), Carly (Chad Leganchuk), Hayden and Jules Gilliard, Kaliessa McGillvray, Wesley and Tom Palmer, and great-grandchildren; Ryan and Madi Appleyard, Aubree Lockhart, Brooklyn and Sawyer Leganchuk. Also mourning their beloved brother are his surviving sisters, Annie and Janice McGillvray.
Known collectively as Wesley, Wes, and Orland, he was born on the family farm just outside of Austin, Manitoba, on 04 June, 1933. He grew up with his parents, Jack and Viola McGillvray, alongside sisters Marlene (Gunn), Loretta (Dixson), Hazel (Schmidt) all predeceased except Annie and, Janice McGillvray. As the only boy he was doted on by his sisters and spoiled by an early age.
Wesley was married to Janet (nee Smith) of Portage La Prairie on 4 June 1955. Janet passed away 28 May 2023. They called Stonewall home for 60 plus years.
Wes was an active individual who accomplished many things as a family man, friend, sportsman, and community leader. He was a proud lineman/telephone pioneer who served MTS for many years. He loved sports, was an excellent hockey player, coached his children’s sports teams, and golfed and curled well into his golden years. With the little spare time he had left he taught Sunday school, served as a Scout leader, town counsellor, clogged, volunteered and stayed active within the Stonewall United Church. Wes was passionate about listening and playing music including on the guitar, banjo, and ukulele. He was most renowned, however, for his talented spoon playing. Whether it was soup or wooden if there were two, he’d play them.
A private grave-side service is planned for 28 July 2024. Friends and collogues who wish to pay their respects are welcome to drop by the Stonewall Legion Club side between 1 – 3PM for an informal Celebration of Life.

I knew Wes through the Stonewall United Church and 55 Plus Seniors' Centre. He contributed through his sincere interest and ideas, and his humor was always fun.
