June 24, 1957 – November 25, 2023       It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ted Hodgkinson, a beloved partner to Sherri, a devoted brother, uncle, grandfather and friend; and a community driven resident of Teulon, Manitoba.

Ted was born in Fort St. John B.C., the 3rd of 8 children. His father’s career opportunities took the family to Trinidad for several years. Upon returning to Canada, the family settled on the White Star Ranch, west of Teulon. Ted attended school and graduated from the Teulon Collegiate Institute.

Upon graduating, he worked for the Manitoba Highways Department. He later moved to Edmonton where he received his Engineering Technology training. Ted returned to Teulon, pursuing a number of business ventures, eventually entering Real Estate in 1989, a career that lasted over 30 years.

Ted was a very community minded person and at the age of 32, he saw a need for senior’s housing to keep retired farmers and town residents in the community. In 1994, he formed his company “White Star Investments”, and built the Life Lease Condominium known as Prairie Estates which has been home to many retiring residents of Teulon and the surrounding area. Ted was committed to caring for the needs of his Prairie Estate tenants and ensured a comfortable and satisfying environment for them.

Ted showed his commitment to the town of Teulon by being an active community member, serving as Mayor from 1998 to 2002, and was currently a member of Town Council.

In his personal life, Ted enjoyed travelling with Sherri and spending time together with grandkids, family and friends. In recent years, he took an interest in sailing, having purchased a sailboat to sail with Sherri. A highlight vacation was a sailing adventure in the British Virgin Islands in 2014, sailing with friends.

Ted was proud of being part of the Shriners over the past 30 years, during which he made many strong friendships that lasted the rest of his life.

He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Sherri; his siblings Dennis (Betty-lynn), Jill, Joan (Frank), Hugh (Cheri) and Andrew (Na Lin), sister-in-law Chrissie, nephews and nieces Samuel (Irene), Ian (Katrina), Kristen (Garry), Raianne, Nicole (Kyle), Tarra (John), Skyelar, Justin (Jennifer), Sabrina (Will), Daniel and Oliver. He is also survived by Sherri’s children Josh and Kurtis (Megan), and grandchildren Rowan and Jude (who were Ted’s “little men”). Ted was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Bernice and brothers, Thomas and Ian, brother-in-law James Kavanagh and nephew Steven Hodgkinson.

The family would like to thank Dr. M. Loudon and the nurses at Teulon Memorial Hospital, the team at Selkirk Hospital and the team at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

A celebration of his life will be held at Teulon Centennial Hall on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

On November 25, 2023, Albert Glenn Sutyla, aged 59, passed away with family close by, sharing his last moments with his soulmate, best friend, teammate & wife, Jodi. Also heartbroken by this loss are his children Christine (Stan), Sandra and Alex, his granddaughter Kathryn, and his furry friend Tynan.

Albert was born December 5, 1963, the youngest of Tony & Betty Sutyla’s five children. He met Jodi Slater of Teulon in January of 1986; he gave her a promise ring in June, and proposed in December. They were wed on October 3, 1987. Al and Jodi considered living in a few different locations, but his heart was tied to his childhood home in Ledwyn, so that is where they built their life & raised their family.

Al was, to put it simply, an extremely smart guy. He was an avid reader and absorbed information with ease. This gave him an advantage over Jodi when competing in their household tradition of playing Jeopardy. He had a talent for thinking outside of the box. He used this talent in every job throughout his lifetime, including autobody, HVAC, R&D, and maintenance. He applied his skills and vast knowledge when working on home projects, fixing yard sale and auction finds, and helping others.

He enjoyed thrifting, couponing, and entering contests. His biggest win of $10,000 got the Library Bandstand build underway, which was completed with community donations & volunteers. He was so proud to see this happen and to see it being used. Al was also a member of the Interlake Road Huggers Car Club, Riverton Chamber of Commerce, and Toastmasters. He liked to attend the meat draws and support other Arborg Legion events.

Al treated his property like a sanctuary for wildlife, and thoroughly enjoyed quiet country living. Summers were spent foraging morels, saskatoons, raspberries, and anything else the land provided. In winters Al would drop trees and gather firewood to heat his workshop, where he spent time tinkering on smaller projects.

Al loved to spend time with his kiddos. He liked to do puzzles and play board games with them. He would wake them up in the middle of the night to watch meteor showers, the northern lights, and thunderstorms. As they grew up, they all developed their own special shared interests with dad. His oldest daughter Christine picked up his taste in music and TV, with Buddy Holly and Star Trek being their favorites. They shared a keen interest in old hobby cars and thrifting for antiques. His second daughter Sandra shared common interests in yard sales and contests. She recently won them a special father’s day hot air balloon ride, an experience she will cherish forever. His favorite (only) son Alex inherited his passion of learning to fix things rather than replace them. Dad was more than willing to share his tools and knowledge in the restoration of Alex’s first project car. Although his kids weren’t always able to visit dad on the farm, he was always happy to receive a phone call from them.

Throughout Al and Jodi’s marriage, any ordinary occasion would be turned into a date, like dump runs, making pizza, or picking up the mail, but the best dates were simply cuddling on the couch. In more recent years, you could spot them in the convertible they restored, cruising throughout the Interlake, and sometimes in local parades. He was hard to miss, donning one of his Hawaiian shirts when it was warm, and his denim jacket when it cooled off.

He touched many lives and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

It is with much sadness in our hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved mother who quietly slipped away on November 25, 2023. Mother was born on June 1, 1924 to Kost and Nellie Timchishen at Rosenberg, MB.

She was predeceased by her husbands Mike Zinkowski 1964 and Peter Grabowski 1998. Her brothers John, Joe, Morris, Nick, sisters Tillie, Ella, 4 stepbrothers and 2 stepsisters.

Surviving are her brothers Harold (Alice) Tom (Maxine). She is survived by her children Gordon (Eileen), Patricia (Leonard), Ron (Loreen), Michael (Rena), and Bob as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She met and married Mike Zinkowski on October 24, 1942. They settled in Ledwyn where they farmed and operated a store and transfer business until his passing December 22, 1964. She remained on the farm and later married Peter Grabowski. They moved into Arborg in 1978. Mother worked at Promo Wear and later in the Dietary Department in the Arborg Hospital.

Mom was an exceptional cook – perogies, cabbage rolls, etc. and she loved her flower and vegetable gardens. Her 3 cats were her best friends. She especially loved family get-togethers for all occasions and her awesome dinners and keen sense of humour never let us down. She was able to enjoy several trips with family members travelling to Mexico, Vegas, The Dominican (destination wedding) as well as many places in Canada and the USA.

Mother will be deeply missed but we have been very blessed to have had her all these years.

The family would like to thank all the Home Care and Health care workers and the Gimli Hospital for their care.

March 12, 1970 – November 20th, 2023     It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Jeff.

He is now reunited with his Mom (Barb), Dad (Allan); brother (Doug); and his wife Crystal. For all of the many family members and friends left behind, we will remember Jeff for his love of family, his career and hobby in carpentry, and enjoying life as much as he could.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:30 am at Komarno Community Hall, with interment at St. Stephens Cemetery, Pleasant Home.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital, and the Health Sciences Centre for the compassionate care given in his last days.

Maurice Edouard Cossette passed away at the age of 91 on November 20, 2023 surrounded by family and staff of the Arborg Personal Care Home. He was husband to Celine R Cossette, deceased; his son Édouard, deceased; his daughter Joanne Hall, deceased, (Peter).

He is survived by his children: Yolande Chuba (Bob), Donald Cossette (Kim), Nicole Barbour (Doug); grandchildren, Curtis, (Caitlin), Dustin, Tessa, (Mike), and Derek; and great-grandchildren Hunter and Cole and Penelope.

Maurice was born on November 3, 1932, son of Lucia and Emile Cossette of Coderre, Sask. He was the 8th child born of a family of 15. He married Celine Langelier on July 25, 1955 (deceased). Dad worked on the family farm. After the birth of their daughter Joanne (deceased), they moved to Winnipeg, Mb. (in 1958) for employment with Butler Buildings for over 30 years until he retired.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to PCH in Arborg, Mb.

It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mom, grandma, and great-grandma on Sunday, November 19th, 2023. Mom was predeceased by our dad Carl, October 24th, 2021.

Mom leaves to mourn her children Carla (Ian), Glenn (Holly), and Hal. Grandchildren Kahla, Chloe and Kiefer. Meghan (Evan), Corey (Natasha), and Justin (Teagan). Harlan (Sylvia), Karmel, and Bryer. Great-grandchildren Easton, Ashlynn, Beau, Sophie, Lillie, and Tenley.

Mom was born in Stead, Manitoba, the youngest and only girl of seven. Mom and dad were married on August 25th, 1962 and had 59 years together. Mom loved her garden, flowers, and volunteering at Meadow Lea Hall, and above all else, her family.

February 10, 1938 – November 17, 2023   It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Lockhart. Peacefully, with family by her side, Nov 17, 2023. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children Debbie (Dan), Doug (Sonya), Darlene (Tom), Laurel, Joan (Craig), Gord (Linda). Survived by her much loved older brother Marcelle (Lucille). She is also survived by her grand children, Jillian (Matt), Jordan, Alex, Matthew, Riley, Brandon, Tamara, (Jan), Amanda, Victoria (Brad), Cameron (Sarah), Trevor, Destin, Hannah, as well as great-grandchildren, Rylan, Parker, Bentley, Nova – Grace, Mylah, Elijah and Madeline.

Irene is predeceased by her husband, Gordon, parents, Wilfred, and Marie, brother, Henry, sisters, Louise, and Christine and great-grandchild Payton.

Mom was born in Forget, Saskatchewan and moved to Churchill in the beginning of her marriage to Gordon where they had their first child. In 1960 they moved to Stonewall and raised a family of six children. In 1974 Irene lost the love of her life in a tragic, work accident. She raised her family as a single mom working many jobs.

She enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, sewing, crocheting, old- time country music, dancing, carpentry, and renovating every place she lived. She resided in many places, including Churchill, Stonewall, Winnipeg, Selkirk, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria.

She was an independent, hard-working, strong lady, with a sense of humor, and a great laugh.

Irene’s celebration of life will be held at the Stonewall Christ the King Catholic Church 315 2nd St. E. at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25.

July 1, 1947 – November 16, 2023     After a struggle with cancer, Joan passed away at the Women’s Hospital early Thursday morning. Joan was the only daughter of John and Lorna Wilson, She grew up on the family farm in Grandview and moved to Winnipeg to attend university. Joan spent many years working as a teacher, with the most of her time at Balmoral Elementary School, where she enjoyed her students and colleagues. Joan enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved travelling, curling, and most of all her family and friends.

Joan leaves behind her daughter Kelley, her husband Frederic Guimont, and her beloved grandchildren Benjamin and Meredith. Missing her also is her brother Jim Wilson and his wife Brenda. Joan will also be missed by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glenn and Jean Main who were always there for her when needed. She will also be remembered by brother-in-law John Feldsted. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews including Corey and Danny Wilson and families, Gordon Main and wife Darleen and their family, Tammy and her husband Brent Turchyn and their family, Warner Main, Shelley and Glenn Schultz and their family, Sean Feldsted, Ian and Ellen Feldsted and family, Erin Main, Shari Meyers and Roshelle Kresnyak.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Reg, her parents John and Lorna Wilson, brother Tom Wilson, as well as numerous others.

As per Joan’s wishes, a private memorial will be held later.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Ritma passed away suddenly in the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on November 15th, 2023.

Ritma will be lovingly remembered by her spouse Donald Peleshaty, daughter Shanna Abrey, brothers Aivars Ozols and Val Ozols, one niece and one nephew. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.

She was born on July 21, 1956 in Toronto, Ontario. In 1980, she moved to Calgary and worked as a graphic designer in the printing industry for many years before changing careers to Canada Safeway. In the spring of 2020, Ritma retired and moved with her spouse to Stony Mountain, MB to pursue their dream of country living and to be closer to family. Ritma was at peace here and enjoyed bird watching, gardening, crosswords and reading novels. Her witty sense of humor, kindness and incredible cooking will be dearly missed.

A private family celebration of life was held.
