July 10, 1941 – September 9, 2023         We are sad to announce the passing of Ron Jaremy on the evening of Saturday, September 9 at the Deer Lodge Centre with his wife Donna and daughter Shannon at his side.

Ron was born in Vita, MB but most of his youth was spent in Chatfield, MB where his parents owned and operated the Chatfield Creamery. He attended Spruce View School then boarded at the United Church Boy’s Home in Teulon where he completed high school. He received a diploma in dairying from the University of Manitoba, then returned to work in the family business, earning provincial and national awards for his butter.

Ron and Donna were married on July 30, 1966, in Dauphin, MB. They made Chatfield their home and in the following years Shannon and Kelly were born.

In 1976 Ron began working for Macleod’s in Teulon so the family moved house and contents to their new hometown. Approximately nine years later he began working at Charison’s Turkey Hatchery in Gunton.

In 1995 a major heart attack and the onset of diabetes resulted in his decision to semi-retire. They moved to Ochre River, then Ste. Rose and finally to his “happy Place” the cottage at Christensen Beach. He suffered increasing medical issues so they moved to an apartment in Winnipeg in November of 2020 during COVID where he could be closer to the medical services he needed. He greatly missed being able to watch the birds and animals from the deck at the cabin.

Ron had many interests. He read the daily paper and kept a good supply of books, especially those by Louis Lamour and John Grisham. He enjoyed gardening and yard work, as well as fishing and hunting. There was nothing he liked better than having friends visit and play cards. A lot of trips were made with family and friends across Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe where at the end of each day the men would have “coffee” and they all would play cards.

Following full retirement Ron & Donna travelled more often. At least two weeks were set aside in the coldest part of winter to go with Shannon & Mel to some of their favorite hot spots in Mexico or the Caribbean. They travelled throughout Southern Germany and Austria with the Jeske’s. They also took bus tours of Great Britain and China. To celebrate their 50th anniversary they cruised the Mediterranean Sea.

Ron began playing tournament baseball with the senior men by the age of 15. For many years he played short stop and was a relief pitcher but later on he mainly played right field. Throughout his career he was a strong hitter. He was a member of the Chatfield Cardinal team 1952-1959 inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. He played for the Balmoral Orioles, Teulon Whips (Senior B Champs 1974) and Teulon Cardinals (Senior A Western Canadian Champs 1975).

In the 1980’s Ron began umping all ages, levels and different types of ball throughout the province; this included umping a Winnipeg Goldeyes game.

Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Donna, his daughter Shannon and her husband, Mel Harder, as well as Mel’s sons Nick (wife Kat and son Darwin) and Josh.

Also cherishing the many memories of Ron at family gatherings and celebrations are: His brother Taras(Ingun) Jaremy, father-in-law Donald McKinnon, Aunt Eileen Probizanski, sister-in-law Doreen Swift, brother-in-law Karl(Dianne) McKinnon, niece Karmel(Johannes) Olafson, nephew Reid Jaremy, nephew Max Jaremy(partner Carrie and her daughter Isabella), nephew Andrei Jaremy(Jamee and sons Alexander, Harmon & Shepherd), nephew Ian McKinnon(Carrie and sons Lochlyn and Rhys), nephew Kris McKinnon(Sarah, son Kole and daughter Jordyn),niece Leigh McKinnon, as well as all the Probizanski, Zuk and Tretiak cousins.

Ron had countless friends who stayed in touch and visited him over most of his lifetime. We wish all of them to consider themselves honorary pall bearers. You have always provided tremendous support to the family.

Ron was predeceased by his beloved daughter Kelly, his parents John and Dorothy (Probizanski) Jaremy, his brothers Ted and Dan Jaremy, his niece Heidi Jaremy and his mother-in-law Virginia (Christensen) McKinnon.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the many people who supported Ron. A special thank you to Dr. Kerr Graham who was Ron’s primary care doctor for almost 30 years.

Our appreciation goes out to the many doctors, nurses and health care workers throughout Manitoba who made it possible for him to remain at home for as long as he did.

Our thanks to the home care nurses and aides who assisted him. Your unwavering support during COVID will never be forgotten.

We will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their support, patience and excellent care.

The graveside service for Ronald Jaremy will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 12:00 in the Windsor Cemetery.

After a well-lived life Wayne passed peacefully with his wife and family by his side after a brief illness. He was born in Winnipeg on July 23, 1942 and passed away on August 27th 2023.

Wayne is survived by his wife Carolyn, children Jason (Sarah), Justin and Joelle (Rick Peterson), grandchildren Jordan, Jamie and Truman, sisters Judy (Edward Prystupa) and Pam (Peter Van Kemanade). He was predeceased by parents Elmer and Bertha Davis (Hallett) and brother Jim.

Wayne grew up in Woodlands, MB. Sports were an important part of his life, playing baseball and running track early on before finding his later love of curling and golf. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time on the land fishing and hunting. Wayne always looked forward to his time at Spearhill, playing records, crokinole and taking naps in the fresh air. His great sense of humor earned him many friends throughout the Interlake.

He was married on September 2nd 1967 to Carolyn McCrimmon and this weekend they would have celebrated their 56th anniversary. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a founding member of the South Interlake Golf Course (Whispering Winds). Wayne worked for 10 years at Bulman printing before starting his 30+ year career with MTS in the print shop.

A memorial service celebrating Wayne’s life will take place at the Woodlands Community Hall Friday September 8th at 2:00pm. A private family interment will follow.

After a three year battle with cancer on August 25th Val Kirby age 67, passed away shortly after her family said their final goodbyes at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.

She was predeceased her mother Val, her father Edward Pattern, and her brother William Pattern.

Val leaves behind her husband of 31 years David Kirby, her two children Carol and Emma Kirby, and her siblings Betty, Barry, Lilly, Tim, and George.

Valerie (Val) Claudia Kirby was born May 9th 1956 in Winnipeg Manitoba. She went to the University of Winnipeg in 1975 and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in 1981. She joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1990 where she served for six years, then joined the reserves for two years. Afterward she joined the Commissionaires and worked there until her retirement in 2019.

Val enjoyed traveling in her youth and vacationed in Europe twice. She met her husband in Shilo, Manitoba and got married in Lundar, Manitoba September 5th 1992.

Val had her two children, Carol Kirby in 1994 and Emma Kirby in 1998. Val and her family lived the military lifestyle and moved many times, living in three different provinces. She would make homemade clothing and meals for her children, and loved to chat with her sister Betty on the phone everyday.

She enjoyed looking after her chickens and growing vegetables on the family hobby farm, and selling her produce at farmers’ markets in the community. Val cherished spending the holidays with her friends and family. She will sadly be missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Komarno Community Hall, Komarno, Manitoba.

 

It is with heavy hearts our family announces the passing of our dear mother Bernice-Anne Hodgkinson (nee Hockett) on August 23, 2023 after a brief illness at the Stonewall Hospital. Mom was born September 3, 1935 in Irma Alberta.

Mom is survived by her children Dennis (Betty-lynn), Jill, Ted (Sherri), Joan (Frank), Hugh (Cheri) and Andrew (Na Lin), and her grandchildren Samuel, Ian, Kristen, Raianne, Nicole, Tarra, Sabrina, Skyelar, Justin, Daniel and Oliver, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Donna Faye Brown and Gail Middleton, Hugh’s sister Rita, who was Mom’s lifelong friend, and sister-in-law Kamolsri.

She was pre-deceased by sons Thomas and Ian, and grandson Steven Hodgkinson.

Mom lived her life to the full. She married Hugh Hodgkinson in 1953 and enjoyed a life of adventure, starting out in Alberta and BC, moving to Trinidad for 5 years and then settling on a ranch in Teulon, Manitoba. While raising her children, she was involved in the community as a member of the School Board and an organizer of the Interlake Riding Club. She then began working in the accounting field, going on to the CGA training program. She moved to Edmonton to care for her aging Aunt, and continued her work providing accounting services to many small business clients, some of which she continued to support as recently as this past summer.

During later years, Mom met a special friend while going for walks along the Saskatchewan River near her home. Bill and Mom spent many good years together, including several visits to Holland as well as other European destinations which fed her interest in culture, art and fashion. For the past 11 years, Mom has enjoyed the company of her little dog, Malani. Mom finished her life in Teulon, close to her family. She will always be remembered for her caring attitude, her wisdom and her amazing culinary skills, which she shared with family and friends her entire life. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical staff at the Stonewall Hospital for the excellent care Mom received.

A service will be held at a later date.

Peacefully on August 22nd, 2023 with family by his side, Carl passed away at the age of 91 at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg.

Left to cherish his memory is Edie – his wife of 68 years, daughters Carol (Tommy) and Donna (Wes) grandchildren Scott (Jenilee), Heather (Chris), Nelson and Joel (Kylee) and great-grandsons Beck, Brody, Ryder and Loudon. Also survived by brother Ted (Joy), sisters and brother- in-law Peggy, Betty, Isla, Elaine and Larry.

Carl was predeceased by his parents Torger and Martha Simonson, siblings Viola, Gordon, Astrid, Gary, Doug, Dorothy and Lloyd, his in-laws Harry and May Hagborg and many brothers and sisters in-law.

He grew up on the farm in Woodlands, leaving home at a young age to find work. Carl joined the Canadian Army and served in the Korean War. He then entered into a long career with the Winnipeg Fire Department. He was instrumental in the formation of the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department. His accomplishments gave him an immense sense of pride. He married Edie in 1954 and raised their family in Winnipeg and then Meadows. They later moved to Grosse Isle, and finally their retirement in Gimli. They loved to travel and enjoyed many winters in Arizona. Their home was the gathering place for many occasions, always welcoming friends and family with great hospitality.

Sincere thanks to those that helped the family over the past years – Dr. Adegbesan, Homecare, Gimli Hospital and Veterans Affairs, and the amazing staff at Deer Lodge who took exceptional care of him during the last year.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Grosse Isle Recreation Centre on September 5th at 1 PM.

In the early hours of August 17, 2023 Mom passed away peacefully. Mom will be reuniting with our Dad Colin Paul, her beloved son Bob, daughter-in-law Lynn and treasured grandsons Paul and Christopher.

Mourning her loss are her sons Colin (Darleen), Bill (Audrey), Barry (Cheryl) and daughter Sharon. Mom has 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her brother William (Bea) (Doris), her sisters Joyce (Hadley), Alice (Curtis) and Gladys (Eddie).

Mom was born on July 8, 1920. She spent her entire life in Stonewall with the exception of a couple of years when our Dad was stationed at the Gimli RCAF base during WWII.

Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held in the near future.

The family would like to thank Dr. Zahari, Stonewall hospital staff and the home care workers at Lion’s Manor for their care and concern.

May 10th, 1957 – August 11th, 2023

Donna Maria Fabris passed away peacefully at morning on Friday, August 11th, 2023 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

Preceded in death by her sister Marilyn and her parents Peter and Louise, Donna is survived and her memory cherished by her sons, Randy, Matthew and Gary, her sister Gayle, her beloved cats Eddy and Stix and her six grandchildren.

We will forever remember our mother for her generous heart and giving nature. Sure to spare her last dime to another she deemed in greater need, Mom would sooner go without herself, than to see another suffer. An unselfish soul was she, who was never dazzled by the material stuff of life.

Mom’s door was forever open to any stray animal. Her motto was “If you are cold, they are cold. Let them in.” And so, through life, Mom’s home was refuge to mainly cats and dogs, demonstrating the strength of her commitment to caring for stray, abused and neglected animals. Her compassion and devotion was overwhelmingly influential, for each of us have proudly followed in her footsteps.

Naturally artistic, our mom had an enviable talent for drawing and playing piano by ear, only surpassed by her greatest passion, which was cooking. She was happiest in the kitchen, rattling those pots and pans, continually developing her skills throughout the years and spoiling us all with her amazing culinary delights. Her knowledge and ability was extraordinary.

Mom was down to earth, never ever any airs, quite the opposite, nor did she embrace many conventional beliefs towards the manner in which she lived. Our mother marched to her own drum beat and maintained her individuality throughout her life. Blessed with a love for laughter and a unique sense of humor salted with a little sarcasm, she favoured to find the comical side of most any situation.

Mom loved the beauty of the changing seasons. She took great pleasure in storm clouds rolling in, the pitter patter of rain, fluffy snowflakes, mighty winds, the changing colors of fall and the sound of leaves crunching under foot. She appreciated the simple and natural of the world around her.

Our hearts are broken for we must live on without our dear mother. We will take comfort though, in our cherished memories of Mom and her love for us and ours for her and remember and appreciate her for furnishing us with many important life lessons. These are our Mom’s special gifts to us, helping us journey forward in our own lives. We will hold her memory close forever.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Haresha for his exceptional care and to dear Rebecca for her friendship and devotion.

In accordance with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the Victoria Church and Cemetery, Balmoral, MB.

Given Mom’s special affection for animals, the family would be honoured by any donations made in her memory to an animal rescue shelter of choice.

Mom, there are not enough words to express just how deeply you will be missed. God bless you and be with you, until we meet again. Your loving sons, Randy, Matthew and Gary.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother in the early morning hours of August 10, 2023 at Goodwin Lodge, Teulon.

She is survived by her two children Bryden (Niki) and Dawson as well as her brothers and sisters Rene (Walter), Graydon, Sandra, Janice, and Mark (Dorothy) along with nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Jack and brother Rod as well as nephews Steven and Greg.

Mom was born on August 19, 1948 in Dauphin, Manitoba and later moved to Stonewall at an early age. Mom was a very caring and generous person and donated to many charities as well as sponsoring children. She also liked to travel, her favourite destination being Mexico.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Goodwin Lodge and Teulon Hospital for the wonderful care Mom received throughout her stay.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral service will be held at Dundas Cemetery at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 19, 2023.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary on Saturday, August 5, 2023. With family by her side, she peacefully passed at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon.

Mary was born February 22, 1933 and raised in Chatfield, MB.

As a young woman, an adventure took her to the Petersfield area where she worked and resided with Tom and Winnie Carter. It was there where she met a young man who bought a farm across the road. A fire was lit and June 27, 1964 the two of them were married. It was soon after that they started their family. With hard work, mom built a good home for her children.

She had a novel sense of humour as we had many laughs at Sunday dinners. Along with her immaculate gardens, the kitchen was also where you could find mom. Cooking, baking and in the fall, canning. The door was always open for visits and gatherings, where the coffee pot was on, and perogies were served. But what everyone yearned for, was Auntie Mary’s infamous cinnamon buns.

Mom was devoted in her children’s activities. Always helping out with the Teulon 4-H, Veselka Ukrainian Dance club and Heather’s baseball team.

Her greatest happiness were her grandchildren, helping raise Dezmin and having that magic touch to rock Courtney to sleep. The two of them kept her young at heart. The many entities of mom’s life was her affection for nature and animals. Harvest, her favourite season; was where she adored the sights and sounds of combines in the field.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Valen; her father Peter Ptashynsky; mother Ann Wolchuk and her brother Walter.

Left to cherish her memory are children, Cindy, Heather, Vernon (Charity); grandchildren Dezmin and Courtney (Stephen); great grandson Aiden.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Goodwin Lodge who cared and loved mom. Thank you nurses Angela and Cheryl for your help and guidance and Kelly for being with mom in her final moments. A big thank you to Crystal Bergeron who made mom’s last year the most enjoyable.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

The heartbeat of the farm may be gone, but the light you shone upon us Baba; will forever shine bright.
