June Grayson (nee Mollard)

June 16, 1943 – September 25, 2024

“The mind may not remember, but the heart will never forget”

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our Mother, June Grayson, on September 25, 2024. Mom passed peacefully in the comfort of her own home.

Moms memory is cherished forever by her children, Rick (Darlene) and Lisa; grandchildren Bryce(Richelle), Kyle(Danielle), Tyler, Kelsey(Doug), Grant(Thomas) and Hailey(Cynthia) as well as 6 great grandchildren; brother Bill; special niece Lynn Linklater and her daughter Tammy Rakar.

Mom was born in Stonewall where she continued to live until her passing. She married Dad, Richard Grayson, March 9, 1963 and celebrated 60 years together before his passing last year. Mom worked beside Dad in his business ventures but her passions were more earthy and artistic. She was a beautiful seamstress in her day and enjoyed crafting. Reading was a favorite pastime but come early spring she was proud to be part of “the garden girls” where gardening and socializing grew deep roots. As time moved on their trips to the warm south in the winter turned into trips to the hockey rink to watch the grand and great grandchildren on the ice. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren had a very special place in her heart. Mom always had a smile for family and friends, even in her last days.

A special thank-you to Dr. Graham for your care over the years and most importantly your patience, compassion and understanding towards the end. Mom got her wish and passed at home. We are forever grateful. The care team between Stonewall Hospital, our care coordinator, home and palliative care and the IERHA were exceptional. We cannot thank-you enough.

Cremation has already taken place. Internment will take place next year and Mom and Dad will be buried together. Mom I know you are happy in heaven and laughing with Dad. You are finally free.

If you so wish, donations can be made to the Interlake Foundation or a charity of your choice.

“My mind still talks to you

My heart still looks for you

But my soul knows you are at peace

I miss you every single day”

William Melnychuk

October 25, 1940 – September 24, 2024

It is with sadness we announce his passing at the Arborg Personal Care Home. William was born on the family homestead in Silver Manitoba.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael & Pearl (Klym) Melnychuk, Brothers: John, Paul, Peter, Nick, Sisters: Lena Romance, Ann Rigey, Teenie Buchko, Nettie Melnychuk and two siblings in infancy. He is survived by sisters: Val Symynyshen, Sophie Gierys, Mary Mozol, Eva Podolsky, brother Steve (Sharon) and numerous nephews and nieces.

William worked alongside his brother Steve as a caterpillar operator, helping build roads and clear brush all over Manitoba for many years. However, being on the crawler with a brushcutter was definitely what he liked best.

One of his proudest accomplishments was working at Oak Hammock Marsh, a symbol of his contribution to Manitoba’s development. He volunteered in his local community and helped with the site preparation of the Silver Community Hall spending endless hours digging out stones and levelling the ground. Later he helped prepare the site where the Arborg Ag Society rodeo is held in Silver. He was always willing to help a neighbour.

Known for his warm, friendly nature William made friends with everyone he met along the way. Whether it was at Auction sales, Arborg Chicken Chef or at social functions.

When not working in construction, William worked tirelessly on the family farm, raising cattle, cultivating the land and growing grain with Steve. He enjoyed his trips to the Ashern Auction Mart especially when our cattle were being sold in January. He took pleasure in watching the sales and having Buddy Bergner calling out his name over the speaker when sales were complete. He may not have been a good speller but he never needed a calculator when it came to adding the expected total of sales in his head. The kitchen table had many papers with calculations of some sort on it at all times.

William spent most of his life on the farm established by his father in 1909 and was immensely proud to be part of the century farm celebration in 2009, a testament to his deep connection to the land and his family’s legacy. He was proud to show visitors the plaque he received designating it as Century farm.

William always looked forward to the fall, when the American hunters would arrive to hunt geese. The first visitors arrived in 1980 until covid stopped travelling. He would drive them around scouting possible hunting lands and introducing them to the local farmers. He enjoyed the camaraderie and exchanging of stories. He continued to communicate with them and they became part of our extended family till today.

His friendships extended far beyond Manitoba into other provinces and the USA. He would phone them keeping them informed on what was happening on the farm and in the Interlake. William had the opportunity to travel to Maui, Hawaii where he captured countless memories through the many photos he took. He also travelled to visit his former neighbours in British Columbia Bud & Anna Kuzenko. He treasured their friendship and called them often with updates of happenings in Silver.

With a jolly personality, big smile and infectious laugh, (he was always laughing) his home on the farm became a welcoming place for friends. His kitchen was a gathering spot where everyone who drove into the yard was invited in for coffee, a sandwich and especially cookies.

Later in life he was diagnosed with stage 2 diabetes and his lifestyle had to change. He was no longer able to eat the cookies and pastries he so enjoyed. This was extremely hard and a constant struggle. He did keep pastry on hand for guests.

In September 2021 he moved to Sunrise Lodge in Arborg as he required assistance and diabetic monitoring. It was a hard adjustment leaving his homestead. Once he needed more care he was then admitted to the Arborg Personal Care Home in February 2023 until his passing.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to Dr. Donnelly for his care over the years while in the community, along with the Home Care Staff and Nurses, also the Arborg Personal Care Home staff.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 11:30 am at Silver Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, treat a friend, neighbour, stranger to a cup of coffee and a cookie or make a donation to Silver Community Centre or the Silver Hall in his memory.

Eternal Memory Vichnaya Pamyat

Peace be with you! Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle and Godfather

Luanne Mounk

Peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Luanne Mounk passed away unexpectedly at St. Boniface Hospital on September 18, 2024

Mom is survived by loving husband Murray, daughters Michelle and Rachel, sons Jeff (Jessica) and Stevens, stepchildren Andrea (Julian) and Nick. Grandchildren Max, Leah, Brynn, Aubrey, Elle, Callen, Joey, siblings Dale, Glen, Dennis, niece Amy (Brian) and nephew Chris.

Predeceased by father Maurice and Mother Doreen and many feline friends.

Born Nov 24th, 1960, in Thunder Bay Ontario, Mom’s love for animals was evident at an early age. She would try to adopt cats, dogs, and rabbits, however much to her chagrin her father would not allow her to keep them.

In the summer of 1976, the family moved to Fort Frances Ontario. Mom showed her independence by choosing to stay in Thunder Bay to finish school. She graduated from Hammerskjold High School.

After graduation Mom moved to Fort Frances. She had worked and saved to backpack through Europe alone. Mom was very independent even as a teen.

After extensive travelling Mom would settle in Winnipeg Manitoba. In 1982 she became the proud mom of daughter Michelle, followed by Rachel in 1983 and Jeff in 1985. Our brother Steven joined the family in 1997 at our home in Wolseley.

A proud single Mom she had always put her children’s needs before her own. She took us on many camping trips and supported us immensely in every way imaginable.

In 1982 Mom had a chance encounter with Ray and Barb Hignall along with son Brad. This meeting would ignite the start of a home daycare that ran for 18 years. Many of the relationships built continued to the present day. This provided her with the ability to raise her family in a beautiful home.

In 1999 Mom decided to finally do something for herself and attend the University of Manitoba. This was to follow her dream of becoming a social worker. She would often bump into her daughter Michelle on campus.

Mom spent most of her career at the Louis Riel School division until retirement in December of 2023. A giving and caring nature would enable her to go above and beyond. This included children and families for whom she provided service. Her LRSD colleague and friend Lynne also became a travel buddy.

In 2009 Mom became Grandma with both daughters giving birth within a two-month span. Being a grandmother came natural to her extending the same love and unwavering support she had shown her children.

In 2013 Mom went on a blind date with the love of her life Murray. They bonded quickly over their love of travel, family, and beaches. They saw the world together on dream vacations. This culminated in a four-month trip through Asia, that she planned on her own. They settled in Matlock Manitoba which they had visited on their third date. They planned to spend retirement near the water.

Mom and Murray tied the knot on April 29th, 2024, in a personal ceremony on a beach in Bali.

Growing up with three brothers, Mom would come to love sports. A huge fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, she had season tickets for years. Mom also had a love for gardening, her flowers even won an award. Her lilies were known by many.

Being the giving person she was Mom of course had a huge love for Christmas. She was also known for volunteering often without any recognition.

She touched the lives of many people, and the family is appreciative of the outpouring of support being expressed.

Big thanks to Stars Ambulance and the staff at the ACCU unit of St. Boniface Hospital. The care and compassion received was excellent. Also, thanks to Ken Loehmer for his continued support.

A celebration of life will be held at Winakwa Community Club in Winnipeg Manitoba on October 4th 2024 at 2:00 pm.

Kenneth Lewis Watson Arbuckle

April 11, 1943 – September 15, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ken Arbuckle announce his passing on September 15 at the age of 81 years.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pat of 57 years; daughter Alisa & Eric Morrison; daughter Keitha & Michael Roth; grandsons Andrew Morrison, Benjamin & Mason Roth; in-laws Ken House, Corrina Stead, Ellis & Jean Wheaton, Diane & Eddy Heinrichs, Willa Fussey, Esther Lavalee: as well as nieces and nephews and their families.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Joe & Susie, step-father Alvin Hunter, sisters Arlene & Wendy, brother Alex, brothers-in-law Bob Mason & Peter Fussey; nieces Christa Heinrichs, Debbie Pahl.
After high school Ken went north to work for Hudson Bay Stores for a couple of years. He then moved on to become a manager for Robinson Little Stores, a dry goods chain which started in small rural communities. His first store was in Carman, Mb. He also managed stores in Golden, B.C., Medicine Hat, Alta., and Tsawwassen, B.C. From 1977-1980, while living in Brandon, he supervised stores in western Manitoba from Boissevain to Swan River and a few across the border into Saskatchewan. His true love was always farming so in 1982 he bought his Uncle Roy Hunter’s farm and rented Alvin Hunter’s land, which he later bought. Besides grain farming he raised a small herd of bison. He also started working for MASC (Manitoba Agriculture Services Corporation) in 1992, assessing crop insurance claims, retiring in 2021.
Ken’s greatest treasure was his family. He was so proud of his girls and their accomplishments. He especially loved making memories with his grandsons, taking them on camping and fishing trips or going to visit. He was blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family, and so appreciated the time spent with them.
Ken delighted in having a building project whether it was a Little Library for book lending, bird house, flower planter or restoring an older Cub Cadet riding mower. He took great pride in his lawn and yard and loved to brag about his success with growing garlic.
Ken loved to play cards and took great joy in beating his friend, Cleve, as they played crib weekly.
Curling, fishing and gopher hunting were also on his list of fun activities. For years, Ken was a regular at Auction and Garage Sales and almost always came home with a new “treasure”. He was enthusiastic to travel and experience new places (Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, London, Paris, Maritimes) just as long as someone else did all the planning.
A celebration of Ken’s life will take place on Friday, October 11 at 2:00 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg. A private family internment will take place at Warren Cemetery
before the service.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Cancercare Manitoba, Stonewall & Grace Hospitals for their compassion and care of Ken.

Larry Markie Black

November 17, 1954 – September 9, 2024

It’s with broken hearts, that we had to say goodbye to our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Larry Black on September 9th.  After a courageous battle of cancer, Larry passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the farm as per his wishes.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of almost 50 years, Roswitha “Rose” (nee Buhle); children, Sabrina (Daryl) Fuz, Savannah (Dan), Lee (Lacey); grandchildren, Cody, Summer, Tucker, Chloe, Racquelle, Rilee; brother’s, Eugene, Daniel (Mel), Ray (Ingrid), and brother-in-law, Ralph Buhle.  Larry was predeceased by his mother, Audrey Black (nee Delong), father, Bill Black, father-in-law, Willi Buhle, mother-in-law, Anni (nee Schapitz), brother, Gilbert and sister-in-law, Diane.

Larry met his first love, Rose when he was 18 and married her after only 2 weeks; Larry just had that kind of charm. Larry and Rose bought their farm sight-unseen in Komarno, Mb in 1988 where they started a hobby farm with their children. This was followed by years of work on the house and projects around the yard. Dad loved working on the farm, over the years there were many animals, but his passion was working with the horses.  In his later years, dad had an abundant garden that became one to envy.

Larry left home (Woodstock, NB) at the age of 16 when he went to B.C. to work, shortly after he got his Class 1 license. This turned out to be his second love and was the start of his lifelong career.  For the next 53 years he was behind the wheel of a big rig.

Larry worked for many companies throughout the years; Day and Ross, Burns Meats, Trimac, Bochurka Brothers, Central Freight, Ter Mat, and lastly Armstrong Construction. Recently it was calculated that Larry put on over 5 million miles throughout his journey’s on the highways.  In 2001, Larry was proud to have purchased his custom built flat top Peterbilt with straight pipes with a train horn.  We could hear that thing a coming from miles away and knew that dad would soon be home.

As per Larry’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and comforting thoughts. A special thank you to Dr. Graham, the nurses of the palliative care team and the home care staff that supported him so he could stay at home.

Dad touched so many people’s hearts throughout his lifetime which has significantly shown in the past several months.  We have been truly lucky and honoured to call him our husband, father, grandfather and true friend.  Dad will forever be in our hearts.

YOUR SHIFT IS OVER DRIVER

YOU CAN REST NOW

Edwin Arnold Woods

May 14, 1929 – September 6, 2024

With great sadness, the family of Edwin Woods announces his passing. Ed died peacefully at the Stonewall Hospital on September 6, 2024, with family by his side.

He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 68 years and children Brad (Laura), Lindy (Larry), Patty and Derek, seven grandchildren, Jordyn, Nevin (Maddie), Jill (Chris), Troy, Brett (Vika), Cale and Jace and one great grandchild, Zara, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by parents, Fred and Martha and his ten siblings: Ferdie, Connie, Reginald, Isabella, George, Ronald, Albert, Lenna, Gregory and Ernest.

Dad was born and raised in Bowsman, MB where he remained until completion of Grade 12. The following year, Ed began a long commitment to education by attaining his teaching permit. What followed was time at Normal School and teaching positions in Allenvale and Markham Schools for 4 years. His decision then to attain a degree in Education would require funding from summer work. It was at a job in Swift Current, SK. where he met Lorraine Agar. Ed and Lorraine were married in December of 1955 and his next position was back in his hometown of Bowsman as the teaching principal of the K-12 school. In 1960, Ed moved his young family to Stonewall where he served as teacher, vice-principal and principal of Stonewall Collegiate until 1979. After completing his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Ed worked in various positions for the Manitoba Department of Education. In 1986, Ed assumed the position of Director of Keewatin Community College, The Pas. He retired in 1990.

Dad was an avid woodworker and one of his greatest achievements was construction of a family cabin in Cranberry Portage on Lake Athapap. It has become a place of glorious summer memories for four generations of his family. Baseball was another of Ed’s passions and he was very proud of the induction of his team, the Bowsman Maroons, into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. He was an avid reader and the excellent service provided by the Stonewall Library staff allowed him to enjoy books right up to the end of his life. As a man of faith, Dad was an active member of the Anglican Church of the Ascension for over 60 years. But it was his family for whom he provided and set an example that was his foundation and the motivation for a lifetime of hard work and service. He was, and will continue to be, our family’s touchstone moving forward.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, Stonewall with Reverends James Gomez and James Bardsley officiating. A reception will follow at the Stonewall Legion.

The family is very grateful to the staff of Stonewall Hospital for the compassionate care given to our dad. We also greatly appreciate all the support we have received from the community during this difficult time.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation at 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to any charity of choice.

Rest eternal grant upon him, oh Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. Amen
