Kenneth Thomas Maksymyk

February 12, 1962 – July 22, 2023    It is with sadness that we announce the passing of brother and friend Ken “Kenny” Maksymyk of Teulon, Manitoba.

Kenny was born in Teulon and attended Teulon Collegiate. He was an active and fun-loving child, even mischievous. He almost lost his life as a young child falling into a cattle watering trough and was rescued by his older brother Michael at the last minute. He was never short of antics but his one story was the talk of many family gatherings. As his parents were painting some outbuildings, Kenny decided to help by quietly painting himself, the family dog, a number of geese and a large number of white rabbits in a vibrant green paint, making the family animals the talk of the community!

He loved to sing as a young boy and was always happy to sing for people, provided they were able to come up with some money for his piggy bank.

Growing up, Kenny always loved the farm. He had an amazing ability to fix or operate any piece of machinery and was happy to be sitting on a tractor for hours during haying season or harvest. His ability to operate equipment led him to various careers from driving gravel trucks to operating heavy equipment. Even though he worked on large equipment he said his most fun was to use a small bobcat to do local landscaping work in the area. He could make that machine dance.

Kenny was a strong advocate of fairness to workers and became a member of his local union and enjoyed holding various union positions. Union discussions with him would always prove lively.

In later years, he struggled with various health and an addiction challenge. But he always kept a good sense of humor in spite of his struggles, and made many friends who cared for him.

We have honoured Kenny’s wishes for cremation and private interment next to his parents. We would like to thank his friends for the care they have shown him.

Special thanks to his friends, Wray, Junior and Jamie, many neighbours and friends and to Ken Loehmer of Ken Loehmer Funeral Services for his invaluable assistance.

She lived life to the fullest by spending time surrounded by family and friends. She loved laughing, watching curling, playing cards, and always jumped at the opportunity to go out for breakfast or wing nights.

Anne was born on July 5, 1930, to Clarice and George Holt in the R.M. of Roblin, Manitoba. She lived in Stonewall, Manitoba, where she lovingly raised her family before moving to Argyle. She adored being part of the community and spent many years as a member of the curling club and played in numerous shuffleboard tournaments around the province. Her last years were spent living at the Knight’s Center in Selkirk, where she was thrilled to become part of a new community. She cherished the friendships she made there and never missed an opportunity to attend an outing, meal, or celebration.

She was independent, strong, and possessed a feisty stubbornness that will live on in her six granddaughters.

You will live on in our hearts and actions for eternity, Gram.

Love you biggest.

Fred Procter

On June 26, 2023, ten days short of his 94th birthday, Fred peacefully passed away at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, Manitoba. Fred leaves us to join his wife, Astrid, parents, Marge and Jim, Astrid’s parents Torger and Martha, his sisters Edith (Lloyd), and Winnifred (Jim) brothers and sisters in law Gary, Lloyd, Gordon, Doug (Sherry), and Dorothy (Ken). Left to cherish his memory are his children; Randy, Trevor (Michelle), Trent, and Pat Simonson, his grandchildren, Paige, Nevada, Bob, Dawson, Brody, Lucas, Payton, Charlie, and Kennedi, brothers in law Ted (Joy) and Carl (Edie) and sister in laws Betty and Peggy. And special to him, his many nieces and nephews.

Fred was born on the JP Ranch in Woodlands, Manitoba on July 6, 1929 and spent his entire life as a cattleman on the farm, until he suffered a significant stroke at the age of 91. Fred lived his remaining years at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall.

Fred married Astrid Simonson on July 5th, 1966 and together they raised their family on the farm in Woodlands, Manitoba. Fred was a hard-working man dedicated to his farm and the way of life that came with it. Outside of family, there was nothing he loved more than working with cattle and putting up hay. There are very few people left on earth, who can say they farmed using teams of horses to operating tractors with air ride seats and computerized technology (even though he didn’t use the technology), but Fred did. His stories from back in the day were the best, and will forever be treasured. Fred farmed side by side with his father and then with his son, Trevor, on their cattle farm until the day of his stroke in 2020. Fred was a simple and kind man, he loved his meat and potatoes, rye and Pepsi, coffee and toast, and a good visit with friends and family. Although Fred’s passion was farming, he was also an exceptional athlete and hunter (best shot in the land). His love of hunting, baseball and hockey was passed down to his children and his grandchildren. Those who knew Fred well, knew that his farm and his family were his sole source of pride. If you were lucky enough to have sat with him over a rye and Pepsi, you would quickly see this passion. He bragged about the accomplishments of all his children and grandchildren, he would light up when he spoke of them.

In lieu of a formal service, we are asking friends and family to raise a glass of whiskey and toast Fred’s well lived life and remember him in a way that is special to you. If you so desire, make a donation in Fred’s name to Woodlands Rec Club or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Fred’s family would like thank the amazing staff at Rosewood, who took exceptional care of him over the past three years. Special thanks to his niece Dawn whose regular visits added so much happiness to his life.

Rest easy Dad. Cheers.
