Vicky Lynn Deprez

April 22, 1952 – October 29, 2023       It is with the deepest regret that we must announce the passing of Vicky Lynn Deprez on Sunday, October 29, 2023 with her family by her side.

Vicky was born in Brandon, MB on April 22, 1952 as the middle child of George and Nancy Harrowen. She attended Earl Oxford and Vincent Massey High School. Vicky dabbled in a lot of activities – who could forget her time as a cheerleader! Her summers growing up were spent with her sisters and parents at Clear Lake where she worked at the local trading post, hung out with her group of friends and loved to roller skate and attend the Saturday night dances. After high school graduation in 1970, Vicky moved to Winnipeg where she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Grace Hospital. She went on to work a variety of nursing positions; at the HSC, Children’s Hospital NICU, Northern Rehabilition and Home care.

On a trip to Hawaii in February of 1975, she met her future husband Doug at Shipwreck Kelly’s. As it turned out, they only lived twenty miles apart back home and, after a whirlwind courtship, they were married on October 25, that same year. Vicky and Doug travelled a lot together to Costa Rica, New York, Mexico, and Dominican and made so many happy memories together. They purchased their winter home in Florida in 2011, where they spent 11 years as snowbirds and met so many wonderful people.

Vicky was dedicated to and defined by her family. In 1979, they welcomed their son, Ryan and in 1985, welcomed their daughter, Jenna. When the kids were younger, they went on many family camping trips, vacations, and road trips throughout Canada and the USA and always enjoyed planning birthday parties and pool parties for the kids. As the kids got older, she spent her free time singing with the local Quarry Choristers for many years, performing and singing ever so beautifully as a soprano. She loved spending her time with friends going for lunch or dinner, shopping, or at the local slot machines we called the “office”.

Her grandchildren were her world. She loved picking them up and taking them for special treats. Buying them all their favorite things and making sure they never went without. You could always find her cheering the boys on at a hockey game and baseball game or the girls at dance class and gymnastics. She was their biggest fan!

Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Nancy and George Harrowen; sister Marsha Giles, and recently her beloved husband, Doug Deprez. Vicky is survived by her son Ryan, daughter-in-law Lisa; daughter Jenna (Jared). Her beloved grandchildren; Natasha, Trent, Jase, Linnea, Brayden and Mikenna and Sister, Donna Harrowen. Niece, Mellissa Sinclair (Scott), Jaxton and Calla, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Rod (Sheryle); Don (Laurie); Laurie (Arlene); David (Debbie); Leanne (Doug) and Lindy McEachern; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral Service is planned for Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stony Mountain Community Centre, Stony Mountain. Interment will follow at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at the HSC emergency and MICU for providing her the best care she desperately needed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stony Mountain.

“When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not for long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that once we shared Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone. It’s all part of the master plan A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know. Laugh at all the things we used to do Miss me, but let me go.”

Modiste Holod

September 4, 1932 – October 25, 2023      It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Husband, Papa & Great Papa on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.Mod, or “Colonel” as his family fondly called him, passed away peacefully with family by his side. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley (nee: Gillespie), his children, Scott (Tracy), Rick (Darci), Ryan (Jacqui), Geoff (Kathy) and Lyle (Jo-Anne). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Kyle (Rachel), Ryley (Justine), Rachael (Garrett), Brayden, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Jefferson, Austin, Miranda, Dylan, and Gavin as well as the newest addition to the Holod family, his great-granddaughter Sophie. Dad will also be greatly missed by his large extended family and friends.

Mod is predeceased by his parents Ted and Sophie Holod, and his siblings Bill, Maurice, Olga, and Nestor.

Dad was born in Vita, MB and later moved to the Holod Family Farm outside Stonewall with his parents and siblings. Eventually, he and his brother Bill, widened the scope of the grain farm, by buying dairy cows and getting into the milking business in addition to grain. He would joke that he hated those animals but loved the milk cheque. Over time, he decided he disliked them so much he would get out of the dairy business and back to just farming grain which the farm still does today.

He met the love of his life at the Gunton Hall where she took his breath away on the dance floor. After they married, Shirley joined Dad on the farm where they raised their family of five boys all while tending to the cattle or working in the fields.

When he and Shirley did have spare time, they enjoyed travelling but would most often head to the family cabin that they built at The Narrows. They spent time on the lake boating, fishing, and swimming. They met lifelong friends who were challenged to many games of cards before enjoying time around the campfire.

Dad was given the nickname “Colonel” as he liked everyone to think that he was strict and in charge, but we all know that he was a big softy at heart. Pops spent many hours waiting up for all his boys to be home safe and sound before he could go to sleep. Even as adults, our phones would ring in a snowstorm, with Colonel checking in to make sure our families were all safe.

Papa, as his many grandchildren called him, loved spending time with his family and would brighten when we would visit. He was quick to jump up and ensure everyone had a drink or snacks. Everyone knew wine-time was after chores were done and Mod looked forward to sitting on the deck and telling stories with the group.

When Pops retired, as much as a farmer ever really does, he could be found helping Shirley in their garden, or most often tinkering in the shop. He loved woodworking and fixing things. The family was always bringing “mister fixit” small projects to work on. He also never gave up the supervision of the farm, making sure those boys were “doing things right”. The farm will never truly be the same without its foreman.

Pops, right until your final days, you were the hardest working man we knew, and you taught us so many lifelong lessons. You will be in our hearts forever; we will miss you, love you and always cherish the memories we have.

The family would like to thank all the Stonewall Hospital staff for the care that they provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Interlake Community Foundation.

A private family service will be held with a “come & go” celebration taking place at the Holod Family shop on Sunday, November 5th from 2:30-4:30 pm.

Arthur Ralph Morrison

April 25, 1925 to October 14, 2023     Peacefully Dad left us to join Mom on October 14, with his daughters by his side.

Art was born 98 years ago on April 25, 1925 to parents William Harold and Mabel Morrison. Youngest of 12 children, he was the only one to be born in hospital. His mother was in poor health so his sister Blanche was especially close to him. He was the last surviving member of his generation, predeceased by wife Edith, parents Harold and Mabel, siblings Blanche, Horace, Kent (Helen), James (Anne), Dorothy (David), Charles aka John (Mary), Mabel, baby Morrison, Edith (John), Kathleen (Ross), Marjorie. In-laws; Mary (James), Hazel and Carolyn.

He is survived by his daughters Cheryle (Don) and Sandra (Paul); grandchildren Cherianne (Crystal), Ian, Erin (Cameron), Jeremy (Diane) and Danny (Denise). Great grand children William, Ryan, Teagan, Kadence, Michael, Kailey, Chanda and Kyla. Brother-in-law Art and numerous nephews and nieces and their families.

Dad lived a long and full life; family, farming and mechanics were his passions. He was proud of what he had achieved over the years. As a boy growing up, he used horse drawn transportation to attend school at East Rosser where he attended until grade eight. He was excited to see travel into space and watched the first men to walk on the moon.

In 1946 he married Edith Buckley and they lived at Gordon in his garage and at the farm, where he worked for his father running the family farm. Mom and Dad loved to travel and they visited many parts of Canada, the USA and Europe over the years. They especially liked camping with the Manitoba Sunny Sams with their RVs during the summer months and then they would become Snowbirds with trips to Arizona and Florida during the winter. Dad always liked having new equipment that he didn’t have to repair, whether it was a new car or farm equipment. Since he didn’t have sons, he taught his girls to run all the farming equipment along with him. Mom ran the combine, Dad hauled the grain and which ever girl was available was plowing the field at the same time. Later when his sons in law joined the family, they quickly learned how to run a tractor and became part of the operation. He was happy when the farm received its Century farm designation in 2019.

Dad had a great interest in mechanical things. He built and designed many things for use around the farm, from his elevator and buildings to pieces of equipment. His shop under the banner of Morrisons Garage was always busy. If family needed something special, he would go out to his shop and come back with the necessary part or machine. Even into his 80’s he would create things to help out with Sandys hop operation. He purchased a large metal lathe and gifted friends and family; including his dentist and chiropractor with fancy small hammers. Truly he fulfilled the definition –

“A farmer is a man outstanding in his field”

A graveside service has been held at Lilyfield Cemetery where he joins his love, Edith in eternal rest. His family thanks the caring staff at Rosewood Lodge during his final days and Selkirk Hospital.

If anyone wishes donations may be made to the Interlake Community Foundation in memory of Art Morrison. A legacy fund will be established to support senior care in his memory.

Please celebrate his life by a toast to his memory. Everyone who knew him, would know he was ready to offer a drink to his guests whether it was Wednesday Coffee time or evening visits.

In 1954, Mom & Dad moved to the Stonewall area, to raise their family and begin their life on the farm where Mom worked tirelessly. She was the heart of our home who loved her family and friends’ visits. She was an exceptional homemaker. Visitors or family never went home hungry. Once her children were grown, Mom took her “Nurses Aid” course to be able to work in the brand new Rosewood Lodge. Where she worked until she retired. Mom and Dad moved to Stonewall to enjoy their retirement. They were very active until Dad’s passing, and Mom’s declining health, but she lived independently until she turned 91.

Mom had many hobbies. Many family, friends and pets received one of her crocheted blankets. In her younger years, Mom could be mistaken for Queen Elizabeth, so we called her “The Queen”. She always dressed nice and tried to look her best. We will miss you, Mom.

We wish to thank all those who took such good care of Mom in her final years. Your kindness and support is much appreciated. Also thank you to Ken Loehmer for your guidance and excellent services.

Garry Albert Piercey

July 2, 1952 – October 4, 2023    With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Garry Albert Piercey.

Garry was predeceased by his loving wife Linda in January 2023 and they are now happily reunited.

Garry will be lovingly remembered by his two children, Gary Stacey and Corren (Kevin); his two granddaughters Ella and Eden.

With Linda steadfastly at his side, Garry spent his working years in Thompson Manitoba, soon after they retired to Arborg, however Newfoundland was always considered home where Garry and Linda are from and most of their family remain.

When Garry wasn’t watching or pondering the latest happenings in wrestling, he was thinking about the next quad, boat, truck, or motorcycle to buy.

Garry’s love for animals could only be outdone by his fondness for the outdoors. Amongst the dogs, cats and rabbits, Linda’s chicken experiment provided days of animal entertainment.

Garry will always be remembered for his larger than life persona, infectious laugh, and extensive Newfoundland vocabulary. Everyone who knew Garry was at one time or another greeted with an enthusiastic “How’s she goin’?!”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. https://winnipeghumanesociety.ca/ways-to-help/donate/

A family interment will take place in Newfoundland at a later date.

We love you Dad.
